Genz Uber 115?

For the record I think the ear test is better than specs, but it's almost impossible to get a company to agree to let you gig test a cabinet before buying.

Testing in the music store is vastly inferior to an FR chart and displacement limitations for my purposes. I've had far better luck with good specs than lousy test conditions. You can never turn it up loud enough or have enough of a mix to work with.

For me, judging a cabinet (or any piece of gear, basses included) is like this:
1. Gig test
2. Specifications
3. Music store/bedroom test

In terms of accurately predicting whether I'll like something. I trust specs a lot more than I trust the music store or bedroom:)

I do indeed understand. This is a battle we deal with, as a smaller company. It is very difficult for a potential customer to even FIND our product in a store....let alone test it on a gig.

FWIW, I don't mind the spec. questions at all. I'm just not an engineer. I can only entertain questions from a playing perspective.

I cant wait to see what it looks like... and pop the hood to see under the grill..
For all i know the 8's" could be passive radiators which would maybe make it a bass Monster... looking forward to this.. I really don't worry about specs so much these days.. Back in the day i did...

I would like to see if a pair of them could kill on a loud gig with the shuttle 9.. I think Hasbeen said it was to be 8 ohms so that would be a good fit with the shuttle 9..

If so, i will put all my stuff on the chopping block once they do ship and i can play it... I cant wait to get rid of some stuff.:)

Passive radiators won't make it any more a bass monster than a lot of extra internal space and a big port would.

I hope that it sounds balanced. My concern even more with that is the weight to volume ratio. I don't see how it could outperform my 15/6 and by my ballpark numbers it'll probably weigh the same or more (probably more).

Hasbeen, can you find out the weight?

Well that just goes to show you how much i dont know. Thank you for the info one thing then, why would some designs use a passive radiator instead of a port? one that comes to mind is the mesa scout... they use a passive radiator.. why not just a port.. it would be cheaper than a driver ..one would think

I'll have a look.

-1 I'll take actually hearing something over every other option. Except when it comes to relying on published specs, then I'll take every other option. :D

You've never taken an amp/cab you loved in the bedroom to a show or a rehearsal and had it underwhelm you? I have, quite a few times. Never found a substitute for testing at gig volume with guitars and drums.

And combined with that question: Do you know how interpret specs like FR graphs, polar response charts, and displacement limitations - and have you ever had accurate ones to work with?

I take your point. If your aural judgement has regularly let you down it's probably sensible to rely more on specs.

LOL...I can market it (if I like it)

:D

Usually my hold-up isn't the product...it is getting our sales team in the loop and the necessary marketing support materials together.

It's really just four of us....me, Jeff, Andy and Scott. Designing the product and building it is one thing- doing all the rest of the support, like the fact that the site is down and I didn't know it :hmm:, is another.

rpsands lives in AZ why dont you let him come to the factory and try out the cabinet personally, might even let him help design it since he seems to be an expert. on a serious note i have never had the chance to play Genz Benz stuff in person as i have never seen it in a store that i frequent. but i still gas for it bad as i have heard so many different people rave about sound, reliability and customer service. when i can save up enough money someday i will be part of the genz benz community myself. Ed's reviews on youtube on genz benz equipment go a long way too as his reviews of the equipment i have had the opportunity to try i have agreed with him. concidering GB hasnt even listed specs yet for some one just to say hey i wont like that cabinet might be alittle premature. back in the 70's who would have thought bassist's would be using 2-10 cabinets for anything?

Peace
Dave

You know what, I am done modeling people's cabinets for replacement speakers, letting TB'ers try out my cabs, posting reviews with audio, and so on. Contributing to the forum clearly gets jerks to follow me around and post crap like this.

You and Synaeaeaesthaseia should hang out and see if you can think up any better ways to drive anyone else away from the forum
