Genz Uber 115?

I asked GB if they had any PDF files of new stuff.. and thats what i got.. I cropped out all the text and left the photos.
2 to 3 of the 115s with my MAx12 head would be great for this gig i am doing now.. I was going to go with the 210s..But I like a line stack...and 15s are nice for Rock stuff.

Yeah, I was originally thinking of swapping out my pair of Eden D210XST's for a pair of GB Uber 210's, but now that GB is coming out with the Uber 115's, I like the idea of a stacked pair of those instead. Our band plays mainstream classic rock covers at moderate volumes (eg, Journey, etc.). I would think a pair of Uber 115's would provide nice deep full meaty (but not muddy) low end punch at good volumes. I have heard nothing but good reviews about the Uber series, so I have no reason to suspect that the 115's won't be just as stellar. I am still trying to find out what the 3 db downpoint is for the Uber 115. I sent Jeff Genzler an e-mail this morning asking that very question.

In response to an e-mail I sent Jeff Genzler asking what the low end freq response is for the Uber 115 cab, here is what he sent me:

Thank you for your interest in our UBER cabs and this new model.

Regarding your questions about specs:
-3db @ 54hz
-10db @ 43hz (similar to the 212UBER)
Sensitivity: 99db 1w/1m

This cabinet is extremely solid in the low end --- with our internal bracing we’ve don’t a great job of supporting this 15” piston!

Thanks again for your kind comments about our GB gear and we’ll keep moving forward.

Regards,

Jeff Genzler

His response initially confused me, because the uber page on the GB website listed the Uber 212 as having 42hz at -3db (not -10db). I e-mailed Jeff asking about that, and he said the uber page should be -10db, not -3db (he said he will look into getting the uber page corrected......as of today, it still shows -3db). He did point out that the spec sheet on their website is correct in that it shows 42hz at -10db for the Uber 212. So, in summary, the Uber 115 has essentially the same low end freq response as the Uber 212.

I guess that might lead to the question, why choose the 115 versus the 212?

The 115 cab will be shorter (same width and depth, but a few inches shorter than the 212).

The 115 weighs 51 pounds, the 212 weighs 63 pounds.

The 115 is 8 ohms, the 212 is 4 ohms.

One might think that the 212 having more surface area would move more air than the 115 (and therefore the 212 would have higher SPL), however, that may not be the case. Surface area is only part of the equation. "xmax" comes into play as well. If the 15" driver has sufficiently larger xmax than the 12" drivers, it is possible that the 115 could move as much air (or more) as the 212. I do not have any info on the xmax of the uber 12" or 15" drivers.

EDIT: I would surmise that the uber 15" driver does not have a huge xmax as it is a "full range" driver (unlike the 3015LF for example). The uber 15" driver may in fact be a 3015 (non-LF) full range driver, in which case the xmax is around 5mm. For comparison, the 3015LF's xmax is almost 10mm, but of course, the 3015LF is NOT a full range driver.

Remember that drivers are designed for and selected for a variety of performance specifications. Xmax is only one pf many. Low mid and midrange voicing are also very important to the character of any bass cabinet.

Thanks AH for chiming in here. I always pay close attention to your posts.

I imagine there may be quite a few TB'ers who would be interested in hearing *your* take on the comparison (soundwise and SPL-wise at various frequencies) between the Uber 212 and the new Uber 115.

I placed my order for the Uber Quad today. I will use the Shuttle MAX 12 to power it.
Might be on the low wattage side for this cab. But, we shall see.

Maybe this new amp line for 2011 has something that will throw some more power at it at 8 ohms.
I like my idea of a Shuttle 9 with the FET pre instead of the tube. Jeff is tough.....he wont budge on hints!!!!! :D

Reviews in a few weeks!!!
