Well, the first gig with the Bag End S15D's went very well. Those cabs pair up much better than my GS112's with this amp. I'll give a better "review" after my gig on Saturday night just so this isn't a honeymoon love fest (even though it probably still will be).

A little funny gig story: Our first set was great, we played for 1 1/2 hours, the whole band sounded awesome. We take a 15 minute break, and take the stage for the second set. I was running: Bass>Pitchblack>REDDI>STL 900>Bag Ends

Between sets I muted the Streamliner. As we're playing I was having a tough time hearing myself, so I kept creeping up the volume a little bit on the GB. Not until the end did I realize that I had the damn amp muted the entire set. FOH was fine, and I could hear myself through the mains and the monitors. Total facepalm moment.

One thing these amps REALLY need is footswitchable mute.

I thought the mute button muted the DI out as well for silent tuning. I don't recall any FOH sound when I was muted but can't say for sure. I do remember my Eden 405 was that way and I hated that.

Yeah I would prefer if when something was plugged into the headphone jack, it woudl automatically mute the cabs.

Meh. I'm using the DI for FOH, the tuner out for my tuner, the effects loop for an external EQ, and the speaker pumping so i can still "feel" the low end. That leaves the headphone jack for a "more of me" send to my wired in-ear feed.

Perfect.

I think you're missing the point. I use the headphones to avoid bothering the wife while practicing late at night or early in the morning. Has nothing to do with the context of performance.

Thats what i do too...

Having a switch on the Headphone jack to turn off the speaker is just one more thing to fail over time. GENZ got this right they way they decided to do this.!

Actually, I just didn't make my point clearly enough. In a practice amp context, auto mute on the headphone jack is more convenient.

But for a high-end, high-output amp like the Streamliner, the extra flexibility of an always-hot headphone out has advantages in the field. I understand the design decision, and would consider it a minor inconvenience to have to unplug the speaker.

In actual fact, I don't have to., I don't leave the SL setup at home, so when I need to use it as a headphone amp, I just pull the amp out of my gig bag, plug in an audio source, and start 'shedding.

For any high powerd amp, switching through the headphone (without using some expensive parts) if full of problems. Actually, even smaller amps switched through headphones can have problems if attention to detail as well as really top notch parts are not used. Also, it may not be possible to switch higher powered amps via headphones due to safety agency listing requirements as all headphone jack switches that I am familiar with do not carry adequate voltage or current ratings.

Just unplug the cabinet and get on with your practicing ;)

Me too, so why do you bother connecting a speaker if you are using headphones?

It's all a matter of convenience. In my home studio, the cab is always connected to the amp. If someone wants to sleep while I play, I have to disconnect the amp to extinguish external sound. Not a big deal, but I'm always looking to simplify processes. And cost-of-components-and-performance-capabilities-aside, apparently there are other Streamliner owners who share my desire to automatically silence the cab when the headphone is plugged in (or provide a button to make this happen). This is how products improve: owners provide feedback, manufacturers listen, and sometimes they respond. Gathering by the response above, it will cost an extra $______ (?) to add this capability to the SL900. Haven't yet heard it is impossible, just that the manufacturer chose to not provide this capability.

Me too...I leave it set up in my music room(right next to my bedroom), so if my wife is in bed and I want to use headphones I have to disconnect. Really not a big deal but I can see why you can't make everyone happy :)

I had my second gig with the Bag End S15D's. Those cabs absolutely smoke! I ran:

Sadowsky NYC PJ5 > Korg Pitchblack > STL 900 > Bag End S15D & S15XD

They really cut through the mix very well, yet still retain a good amount of low end. I was running the Streamliner bass control around 9-9:30 with my GS112s, but I'm able to add in a little more to the tune of 10-11:00 without getting boomy. Adding it in just makes my tone hit a little harder.

I wasn't sure how I'd like the tweeter always being on with the S15XD, but I really didn't notice it at all. No harsh, shrill sounds at all.

I HIGHLY recommend these cabs with the Streamliner. Once I put my house back together I'm going to try them out with my Walkabout...then A/B both heads (STL 900, Walkabout) with both sets of cabs (Aggie GS112's & Bag Ends) to see how they compare. I'll be doing some recording next week and I'd like to mic a cab and run a DI, so I need to see what I want to use.

I miss my single S15-D. So versatile, so small and just has that big but controlled sound a good 15'll give. Good info that you could push more lows into your BE's. Better news to know the STM-900 works well with ceramics.

SL900 with GK NEO 115

I finally found my go to settings with this cab & man are they different from other cabs.

Bass at noon, Mids cut to 10 @ 2.5k, Treble to 2.

This helps lower the upper mid range volume boost of the GK cabs. Cuts through nicely while still being very warm. Had my pop-in-law out in the crowd & he said it sat very well (He's quick to say it sucks so I value his opinion)

Alas we keep seeing the SL in the classifieds. I think maybe people are trying to hook this amp with hi end warm cabs & I can personally attest with my Epifani NYC 310 that its not a good combo.

I know its counter intuitive to buy a high end amp & match it with an average cab... but maybe thats why I've kept mine & others have sold theirs? I dunno. I love my tone right now. If I want a more hi-fi tone, I'll cut the bass & boost those mids a bit, even boost the treble as it adds grit not glassy highs. I really love the way the treble responds vs a solid state head.

Horses for courses I guess. I have multiple cabs (and heads) and gig in 4 or 5 different bands, so leaving a rig set up in a room in the house isn't very practical for me, as various bits and pieces are getting loaded in and out of my car every couple of days for gigs and rehearsals. When I need to practice silently at home when the kids are in bed or the wife is watching TV, I just grab the Streamliner from my music room and some headphones and just sit next to the wife on the sofa and practice :bassist:
