GenzBenz Streamliner Pt 8...

Well there really should have been some thought put into building a coffee maker into the Streamliner. Then it would be the Superliner. :smug:

As far as Headphones go it's best to plug them into an SVT.:D

Here is how I get around some of the issues mentioned in previous posts with my practice rig.

I have this set up at all times in my bass space. DT990 headphones (wonderful!), Cafe Walter headphone amp, and a mono to stereo cable that puts my metronome into both channels of the stereo aux input of the Cafe Walter (with separate volume control) I use the aux input for my iPod if I have a tune I need to learn with no chart.

Amazing sound, always there, and not a ton of money, given the quality of the sound.

I will say BE cabs are real nice.. I used them years ago ( back in the early 80s) just loved them.
I should get myself a single BE 12 one day for small gigs...

Question.. You said you have the GS112s and the BE S115.
How do they compare in bass output and overall VOL...
I asked that same question numerous times the past few years and no one was able to answer that ... Thanks

I had my second gig with the Bag End S15D's. Those cabs absolutely smoke! I ran:

Sadowsky NYC PJ5 > Korg Pitchblack > STL 900 > Bag End S15D & S15XD

They really cut through the mix very well, yet still retain a good amount of low end. I was running the Streamliner bass control around 9-9:30 with my GS112s, but I'm able to add in a little more to the tune of 10-11:00 without getting boomy. Adding it in just makes my tone hit a little harder.

I wasn't sure how I'd like the tweeter always being on with the S15XD, but I really didn't notice it at all. No harsh, shrill sounds at all.

I HIGHLY recommend these cabs with the Streamliner. Once I put my house back together I'm going to try them out with my Walkabout...then A/B both heads (STL 900, Walkabout) with both sets of cabs (Aggie GS112's & Bag Ends) to see how they compare. I'll be doing some recording next week and I'd like to mic a cab and run a DI, so I need to see what I want to use.

So I took my Streamliner to a larger than normal (for me) gig Friday night. Up until then all my gigging has been with one HT112ER cab. I took two cabs.

We were playing pretty loud and I was able to throttle her out. Dear God it was like a hammer slamming. The tone was solid as a rock with no boom and I was on a raised wooden stage.

Saturday night I went back to my one cab setup for a smaller gig.

I think the BE's are a little louder with the same settings on the amp and bass. I haven't compared them head to head in the same environment yet. I can certainly hear myself better with the BE's, but that may just be the way they are tuned vs. the Aggies. I do assume since the BE's are 103db vs the 95lb of the Aggies...plus the 15" vs 12" that they will be louder.

As for bass output, I was pleasantly surprised. I like a lot of low end, to the point where I usually boost my bass controls slightly on both my amp and my bass. Playing with the GS112's, I had to roll back the bass on STL to about 9:00-9:30. Anything over that was a little flubby sounding and got lost in the mix. I had a good amount of low end still coming through though.

With the BE's and STL on the same settings (for the Aggies) I felt the bass was lacking, so I turned it up to about 10:00-10:30 which brought me right back into the same territory but with a fuller sound probably due to the punching mids. My solo tone was great, but it really shined in the mix. I cut through like nobody's business, yet still retained a very nice amount of low end. No flub, just defined tightness. They handled my low B great as well.

I was unsure about getting the BE's in the first place. I read all of the threads on poor port design and lacking low end, but I also read all of the stories about them sounding great. I couldn't pass them up for the price, and I'm glad I didn't.

Thank you.... Exactly what i was wanting to know... I appreciate your time...

Well, it looks like I might be joining this group in the next few days with a Streamliner 900. An opportunity has presented itself and while I have consistantly not been a 'tube' guy' I have read so much about the sound both ways that I feel that I must give this one a go. The few videos that I have heard do not support the 'muddy' moniker I have read in some places and that suits me. Looking forward to trying it with my Avatar B210 and especially my Berg HS410, which from what I have been reading may be a well suited pairing with this head.

If those cabs are light in the low end, hi-fi, gritty, trebly cabs you'll definitely be all set, if not its a toss up. Congrats!

Hmm, well I can say with certainty they are designed to have a bit of an 'attenuated' low end so score one. with the horn in play it can be more trebly than I sometimes like, score two. Hi-fi and gritty I cannot attest to. I am not much of a 'grit' guy but have always been a bit hi-fi leaning so it will be interesting.

So the Genz Benz Streamliner & Shuttlemax amps have a poweramp in \ receive jack in the back

If I plug in a different preamp... a preamp pedal etc, I would bypass the EQ & basically use the poweramp section right?

Lets say I have the Streamliner... could I use the "Preamp out \ Send" & plug it into a Shuttlemax 9.2 "Poweramp in \ receive" & have 1800 watts?

With the 2 Epifani cabs at 5.3 ohms & 750 watts each, I can't push both cabs with 1 amp, but I could doing it this way? I also could go with either the Streamliner or Shuttlemax tone... would they be in phase, no lag?
:help:

Correct, provided your preamp/pedal can drive a +4dBu line level power amp.

Yes, correct.

Yes, correct. Phase/polarity will be correct, lag (or assuming you mean latency) is not an issue with analog gear.

Thats so awesome, I dont even know where to start

The Sansamp PBDDI has a hot output & a regular output so I'll be good

The Streamliner tube warmth may be too much for people on some occasions... fine, grab the preamp of your choice & rock some hi-fi tones. Come on people? Thats awesome!

I'm crazy enough to chain those bastards together. Shuttlemax 9.2 + Streamliner 900 into (2) 750w 5.3 ohm Epifani 310s? NICE !
