Especially with the Streamliner

Put your mids to 2.5K & cut baby cut !! Boost the treble to compensate... play with lows for grind vs warm tight lows.

Cool. I got this amp coming directly from a Mesa 400 (non plus) and an Ampeg V4-B so, I'm used to (and prefer) some power section clipage. I can't believe how close this amp can get to those sounds! The tube like feel is absolutely incredible!

A tube power amp is a completely different beast than a solid state power amp- you absolutely do not want the sound of a solid state power amp hard clipping as you probably liked with your tube amps. It will sound horrible! Fortunately as mentioned, the protect light just signifies that the limiting circuit is kicking in which should happen a decent bit before you are actually hitting the end of your total headroom. On my Streamliner 900 I was never able to even push it to the point where that light came on, so I can't speak to how "tube-like" the limiting circuitry is...

For those of you wondering what a Streamliner 900 sounds like, here's what I'm digging these days:

Slap on some headphones and you'll hear the sound I've been searching for for years. 62 ri P-bass -> STL900 -> Berg HS210. As best I recall it sounded thick and rich on the bandstand. And these audio clips come close to capturing it. To my ears the bass sounds plenty clear but with some nice tube warmth and hair. Yum!

The band is no-rehearsal loose, with more than a few clams but just as many groovy b9s and #11s. I don't know what my pal Andrew Davies used to record this. Think it's just live sound off his video camera. But it sure works for me.

The video is just a placeholder. Real deal coming soon.

Anyway, just a small sample of what this very groovy bass amp can do.

Cheers!

Great! Sounds like a made the right choice with the 600 as I wanted to take advantage of the limiting circuit.

Does anyone know if that light will change color when it goes from light clip to hard clip? I'm kinda color blind.

Just a quick question about the Streamliner 600 if I may:

Mine was delivered tonight (used). I bought a speakon cable for it yesterday - an NL2. On the back of the amp it says NL4.

Do I need a different cable, or will this be ok?

I never even knew there were different types of speakon til now!

Cheers,

Great tone and amazing recording wooly! I can't believe how clear everything is for a video camera mic.

I'm listening through decent monitors but I'm really loving how without headphones I can hear every note the bass plays even though it's a nice round tone. Cuts without sounding cutting, as it were.

Nice!

An NL2 plug simply means that there are two pins, 1+ and 1-. They can be used in NL4 (4-pin) sockets without problems, as the Streamliner only uses the 1+ and 1- pins anyways.

Correct.

Note (as general information) that an NL-2 or NL-4 cable connector (female) will work with an NL-4 panel connector (male) BUT an NL-4 cable connector will NOT work with an NL-2 panel connector. This is why yuo will almost always see NL-4's on the panels. There are some manufacturers who will use NL-2 panels but buyer beware as this is not the norm.

Hey all, I think this was covered a couple installments ago but are there any fresh options for a good fitting padded amp bag for the 900? I have the option for the GB bag but would really like to confirm just how well or sloppy the amp travels in the Gig Skinz bags (both old and new styles) or even the Gator 1212 bag. Are the OK knobs up in all? Thanks and I hope I am not just re-hashing something that might be common knowledge by now.

I got the small Skinz too and I can get, a kettle lead, my spare inst. lead, spare box of strings and a couple of speakons in the two pockets no problem.
I found a deal on the older style Gig Skinz small bag so I'll give that a shot. I believe that I read somewhere that these work fine as well. The dimensions look right. Worst case I can always use it for something else.

This is the small one, it's the older model, but the new one appears to be the same size, just with a different material style.

As you can see, it fits with a bit of room to spare, this makes it easy to get in & out of the bag.
