That's interesting that you ask that. I did once, some years ago, but I felt that it enhanced the "string" sound, which I'm constantly trying to avoid. With this new setup, I think I should try it again. Thank you for the suggestion!

I also roll off the treble a bit on my 3 band active bass to reduce string sound.

I read up on your amp a bit. Maybe playing with some of the tone controls a bit or inserting a 7 to 15 band e.q. in the effects return would help get the balance you need:

• Modified Passive Baxandall EQ for the Lows and Highs
• Active Tube Driven Mid EQ w/Parametric Mid
• Selectable 3-Position Mid Frequencies: 220, 600, 2.5K HZ
• 3-Band Signal Shape Circuit (Footswitchable)

I have read this thread from end to end and I have a STL900.
Awesome amp, I am loving it! Been playing it with an EPI UL2 210 and it sounds great. I did have an AE212 for a spell and didn't like it at all. I sold it ... prolly too hastily.

Anyhoo, 1 x Epi 210 is great but not enough for all gigs. I may get 2 of these (meh, mine is a 4ohm so another 2 8ohms need purchasing ... )

But, I want to consider other cab options too!
I want to know if anyone is using the Markbass cabs with the STL, particularly the New York 804! The 804 looks like an interesting cab, haven't seen any around my local though at all.
Would appreciate anyones experienced thoughts please!

I haven't used my STL with anything other than Aggie GS cabs and Bag Ends, but I have played through the Markbass NY604 which I thought was a killer little cab. I'm not sure if it sounds anything like the 804, but I just thought I'd share.

I would also suggest to take a look at Bag End stuff. They're not the "in" brand any more, and their designs have been proven to be technically different (the port location specifically) and thus bad by a lot of guys around here. However, they sounds AWESOME when paired with the STL. I was very unsure what to expect, but I found a pair for a good deal and figured I'd try them out. I'm glad that I did.

I would think that any mid voiced type of cab would work pretty well with it. That's why I didn't like the Aggie GS cabs with it, too much low end.

What didn't you like about the Berg?

Since one of the primary differences of the AE212 versus the UL210 is a tighter low end and a MUCH more even mid response (i.e., it doesn't have that 'scoop' like the Epi cabs, especially the 210UL's), I would assume you would HATE the even more pronounced mid presence and low end tightness of that particular Markbass cab, the Bag End cabs, and any of the Berg cabs.

If you really dig the 210UL (one of my least favorite cabs due to the big low end, dip in both the low mids an upper mids, and uber hi fi top end), you probably need to stick with that model and get dual 8ohm models IMO.

With a pair of those cabs I keep the tone controls surprisingly near to the noon position, except for the bass knob that in certain rooms is lowered to 10-11 o' clock (but in my rehearsal space with my Wicks I like to boost this frequency a little when I need a cushion...), the mid knob has not to be pushed to fill in a lacking midrange and is twisted only for particular tone purposes.
Even a single AE210 sounds killer.

Its funny how close the preferred EQ settings are for the AE series vs the GK NEO series.

The original AE210 (horizontal) and the AE112's and AE410 have a soemwhat similar 'upper mid grind and brightness' to the GK Neo 112's. The revised vertical AE210 and the AE212 do not.

The original AE210 (horizontal) has that upper mid grind like the AE410, and a tight, upper bass/low mid present low end. The final AE210 (vertical) has a similar low end (I guess identical), but the upper mid bump was removed (from what I understand, with a new crossover). So, a bit smoother... like an AE212 with much less deep low end.

Based on that description, it sounds like Aguilar GS cabs might be an option as well?

I've never used the Epi cabs, nor researched them so I had no idea they are scooped.

The GS112's have a bit of that 'big low end, polite mid thing' going. The treble response (i.e., tweeter quality) is MUCH better with the Epi IMO.

The Epi UL's sound great for what they are... big down low, relaxed in the low mids, a big dip in the upper mids, and a beautifully airy, hi fi top end that kind of floats over the sound of the cab. That is why you see SO many gospel guys and slappers loving them... big low end, relaxed upper mids, hi fi crisp. To me, that would be the exact opposite cab voicing I'd want with the Streamliner, which was voiced with a more 'sealed mutl 10 cab' in mind IMO. Pure personal tast there.

I purchased a pair of AE1X12 cabs last year and those things have this built in increased presence around 1k. I mean ear piercings presence. I took those back and got the HT112ER's and they have that warm mid scooped sound. Th HT's work great with the Liner though there are some mid hungry folks out there that would prefer the AE's.

I'm not a slapper or a gospel guy, so for the old school rock and blues that I play the ULs (I own a UL610 and a UL210) are perfect cabs with the tweeter dialled back a little. With flats the UL cabs punch hard with my Streamliner, as well as my other heads.

I know that my Streamliner 900 + my Shuttlemax 9.2 = a Shuttlelinermax 18.2 when using the preamp out into the poweramp in of the other

Wow, IME I found some opposites.
The UL210 has that nice tightness but quite a full bottom for a 210. I have only been using one UL210 btw.
I found the AE212 to be a bit scooped and wooly and some eq meddling didn't seem to sort it much.
I am not blaming the AE212 cab 100% as I moved it on (a little too quickly) even though i played quite a few gigs/jams/rehearsals with it.
Wish i had of kept it for a bit more mucking around with as they are impossible to get now here in Australia.
I know i made a sound mess of things early in the piece by backing the cab too close to a corner and those rear ports fired a low end mess back into the room....
So while i like a single UL210, 2 may get mushy?
I would like some more upper mid grind than i do get with the UL210.
I do like the lighter cabs too, well my buggered back does anyway.
Prob is that where I am, there are no more AE410s/210s/212s and I haven't seen any 2nd hand for sale either. Never see BE here so my choices are coming down to the MB stuff.
I haven't loved their 210s but not hated either.
This is why I posed my orig question of whether anyone had actually tried with the NY804 (or 2 of them)to date.
