Agree with all said. The 800, best as I can tell having used both, is simply louder and grittier with the drive engaged. The 350 was plenty loud for me, especially at 4 ohms. Can't imagine how loud with 3 cabs. But now that I'm playing with a very loud band, I can tell that the 800 will not break a sweat whereas the 350 might have struggled a bit to keep up. Learning curve going from the 350 to 800 was zero.

Can any of you guys that have had both the Magellan 800 and 350 comment on the difference in "feel" between the 2? If the front end and DI are identical I may just go for the 350 and save a bit of cash for now(since I don't need the drive section).

I thought the MG350 combo was loud and punchy with just one cab at 8 ohms. I can't imagine ever needing more than another BA10-2, let alone 3.

I don't have the 350, but I have the 800. It is the most powerful amp I've owned, and while I never put much stock in the idea of "headroom" it is clear to me now how much that makes a difference. I've been farting out cabs and pushing amps right up to their limit for ages and that's a thing of the past. The dynamic range of the 800 is stunning, and no matter how hard I dig in, I never come close to the ceiling of the amp.

I don't play loud any more, and I mostly use a 210 cab, but the sheer openness of the sound has been a complete change for me. I may not need or use most of the power, but the open sonic space was worth the few extra $$ for me.

The 800 can generate A lot of BOOTY... I usually use my MG212t @ 4Ω and at times have used it with my old Uber 115 @Ω.. As well as both cabs combined. They seem to play together well if you back away from the two.. UP close teh Uber115 is slightly mid scooped though.. In a GOOD way.. And I'm NOT the guy that scoops mids.
I am updating gear and getting rid of stuff i dont use much , and I will be getting the new 410-3 in a couple of months.
I think that may be the ticket to a nice compact, lightweight, Loud and Non Beamig 410..

HI.. It seems that i vary it up.. Depending on room and gig. Weirdly, I will go from a LOUD TX Guitar blues gig, to Pop gig with my ex boss, a top 40 thing, travel to Nashville for country gig to a mega church when i am at home.

For most Rock or country stuff, i tend to prefer the YELLOW LED contour.. Not much but maybe 9 to 10 o'clock-ish..... Sort of makes my ported cabs sound like a sealed cab?? Sorta!!
Some top 40 type gigs and the mega church gig i may use the BLUE LED contour.

It seems i almost always boost BASS to about 1 o'clock.. and Treble depending on the Cab .

I did some fly dates with the american idol casey james guy and i used a pair of EV ETX-12P
powered monitors and only used the MG800 as a preamp ..I basically ran it flat on that gig.. I was surprised at how great the EV powers cabs sounded.
Im thinking the new 410-3 may do what those EV monitors did but better.

Thats cool. It seems pretty versatile. Are you using the DI post EQ? I actually just placed an order for the 350. If I like it(which I can't see not liking it since the Genz Benz gear sounded so great), I'll probably order the 800 in a couple months. I just don't need the power right now since most of my gigs are production shows with good sound systems.

I'm the exact opposite, I always run post that way if I run some Drive or Compression or Contour the audience can hear the difference. I've even asked soundmen to come up to the stage and listen to how my bass sounds and then ask them to approximate that out front. I figure it is easier for them to do that post than make bigger adjustments with a clean Pre signal. So far I have had no complaints.

Most days i'm lucky though. More So the past few years .. Nowadays they always seem to Mic my cab too.. I have no idea what ratio they mix out front.. I spec an RE20 mic but they at times use others , but rarely.
I think i'm getting old. haha well, I am.
But nowadays i only am concerned about what is happening in my immediate area and the stage/ band. But more so my area about a 6 foot circle around my feet. . I let the House guy do is thing without me interjecting.. I know that i really have no control over what happens out there. And i realized that if it does sound like poooo out front, it's NOT my doing.. Of course i care. But it's beyond my control and i can't let it affect my gig..
UNLESS UNLESS there is a low end feedback.. .. lol.. Happened last year on a gig.. Low mid feedback just rumbling non stop.. My boss had a FOH guy that was with the house mix our show since our guy had a delayed flight.. .
I told him it was the floor tom mic feeding back. He refused to admit it.. Feedback happened for at least 30 minutes of a 90 minute set. .
I was gonna lose my mind. Turns out . .It was the FLoor Tom mic!!!!!

Sorry bro, I am not a pedal guy. I normally use the Drive out of certain amps such as the Genzler, TCE and Ashdown. I try to keep things simple. Plus about 90% of the songs I play I use a clean signal with maybe a little bit of grit. The Magellan I run clean though as it sounds great and hits pretty hard that way.

Although the Magellan Drive did a great job last week on the 2 songs mentioned earlier. There is much more available overdrive on that amp than say the older Shuttles. Just by switching Contours can also give me quite a bit different sounding overdrives. Very nice.
