Genzler Amplification Club

Been feeling my Genzler rig hasn't been translating my E string that well. Just a regular 4 string Precision. Also use it with Double bass. Not sure if I misuse it and blew something with the upright low lows. The low string on the electric sounds weaker than the others. Tried other 2 basses and felt the same. Any suggestion on how to sort this out? Thanks

First off, try the cab in different rooms, different positions, ect and see if anything changes. I've had some TERRIBLE rooms lately where all the low end has disappeared 10ft out from the cab, come to find out, laws of physics where in play with what i was hearing because of cancellations from weird rooms. Setup the rig in a different room to make sure everything was ok, and the thunderous lows where there. Every room will make your cab sound different (the frustrating part of live sound!)

Since this IS the internet and all...

Me too.. Mine has been ALL over the country.. I had it racked up last summer for the Truck rides. Since JAN ive had it in a bag and its getting SCRATCHED up.. I need to rack it again for summer gig.. It is my #1 amp.. And i have a few from other makers. The MG just gets me to where i need to be FAST,,I've gotten my money worth already. .It's the first Class D amp that i have owned that doesn't make me think about what i think Im missing from an AB style. Its 100% reliable so far. And I am Rough on my stuff..

I’ve gigged my Genzler gear hard for over 2 years and it works perfectly every time. I’ve owned Mesa Subway and Aguilar gear and neither felt like the quality product I have with Genzler gear. Not putting them down but the build of Genzler is 2nd to no one IMO.

That place in Monroe emailed me to say they are expecting a 12-3 and 210-3 Monday so I’ll be headed up there this week to check both cabinets out. My preliminary thinking is I’ll wind up with 2 depending which suits me better but was just wondering, is anyone running 1 of each type? If so is that doable with the 350 head? (Not playing super loud on stage with the gigs I do these days with FOH PA)
Thanks

Tb'ers, that BA 210-3 is calling my name, but I'm concerned about the darkness that I hear in the limited demos of this cab. Shouldn't be there, with the spec up to 15KHz or so? But then the demos seem to all be clean playing at lower volumes. Would love to hear this cab at full stage volume with an aggressive hard-rock grindy tone, maybe my concerns would be allayed. I play loud aggressive (Rusty Box preamp which is very bright) with medium overdrive to fuzz, and what is attracting me to these cabs is the prospect of clarity in the highs without the harshness of typical tweeters. I use a Mesa Powerhouse 410 and love the tone clean with the tweeter but with fuzz I find I have to turn the tweeter down significantly. Anyone use these Array cabs in aggressive rock music?

Yep

Svt cabs don' have tweeters or mid arrays and yet...

You will not miss a tweeter. They cover a wider frequency range than the standard cab mentioned above and will actually represent the low b nicely - in a band mix the array gives a nice dispersion that will actually help you and your band mates hear the bass without having to overpower that Marshall double stack...

I've wrote about this before way back in this thread. My previous rig was an Ampeg SVT 3 pro and a Dave Eden 410XLT. One of the best cabs for its time. SO, I was very hesitant to go down to a single 12 cab. After my first gig with my Genzler rig which blew my band away I knew I made the right decision. And that was with a single cab. I played all kinds of gigs all last year, big stages, small rooms, outdoors with NO foh support and the MG800 and BA 12-3 was stellar. Lots of aggressive guitar driven rock in the sets.

Your concerns aren't totally unwarranted I had the same concerns you did about the highs with the array cab. In the end I ended up liking the highs and high mids in the mg 112t but I like the lows and low mids of the array better so I put the two together and it's been perfect for me. Although I am also considering picking up a 210 as well, I really like how Punchy that cabinet is it's one of the punchiest I've played.

Do you play with OD/Distortion/fuzz? Again, I can imagine that playing clean might yield a too-polite sound from these cabs, but that the highs might be fully realized with a harmonically richer input. Even "clean" I like some zing from light overdrive, and my Rusty Box provides alot of highs if I want them.

I should also say I'm specifically looking for a pair of 210s of the same type to replace my 410 for a modular system. I have a VT Bass 500 (class D) head as well as a 130W tube power amp which I cannot bring myself part with. I like the sound of both (using the VT 500 preamp section for both) but in different ways and so am aiming to mix the two sounds acoustically....and for this reason want equal cabs so the only phase differences will originate in the power sections alone hoping to reduce any comb-filtering and make for the most cohesive yet complex sound.

One important factor about this designis that overdrive and fuzz effects come through with more detail and harmonic content because of the array and that fact that no tweeter is used in the cab. Darryl Anders at Dunlop Manufacturing has the BA rig in their showroom precisely because of how these cabs reproduce driven tones.

That's what I'm thinking and awesome to know about the rig at Dunlop. Thank you for that!

To me, that sounds like what the BA12-3 does very well. As I have mentioned before, IME/IMHO, the BA12-3 really shines when you stack multiples, and I also learned more recently that the mix and match of the BA12-3 and the BA12-3 SLT can yield some excellent results. I did really like the BA210-3, as well. But I think for my preferences - and for an aggressive hard rock grindy tone - the BA12-3 fares a little better.

That all being said, so much of the end result is a product of your upstream gear AND YOUR HANDS, so what might work great for me, might not be the best fit for you, and vice versa. The whole YMMV thing, ya know?

I do use overdrive and effects, and I like a Grindy tone that cuts in the high mids and the mg112t really helps with that tone with my array. That being said I may try the 210 because the punch is just intoxicating with that cab.

It' been a while since I've played the 210, but am I right in thinking it's the brightest sounding array cab?
