My BA410-3 with the 800 is a killer, and my BA12-3 stacked with it is an overkill, too!
I gig with my MG800 up to six gigs a month, and I do have two other backup bass heads. But the MG800 is such a sweet little monster!! I hardly use the other two backups because the MG800 has yet to let me down.
Well, Bergantino just announced a new 1200 Watt Forte, sooo...
I just dont understand why anyone needs that many watts. 800 watts is more than enough clean headroom, and if you are playing venues that big, PA support will take care of the rest.
IMO, 500 watts is the magic number for me.
800 Watts is around my magic number. Enough to keep up with a loud drummer and guitarist in our loud jam space, and enough to power any stage I've played on. 1200 Watts would require a new rig from the ground up as my BA12-3's aren't going to handle that much power anyway.

I've heard what can come from my MG800 powering a stacked Genzler 410-3 and 12-3! If that can't handled it, then the stage needs to moved farther away from the active flight line!!!
It is not a question about volume, but more about feel. A 200 watt amp does not feel like an 800 watt amp at the same volume. While I think 800 watts is fine for me, I can only imagine 1200 watts feeling really good. YMMV.
Gee, the folks that make high powered heads will also make high powered cabs. I believe that is called a tie-in sale.

I usually run my contour between 1 and 3 o'clock and my eq in similar areas, I love the scoop it gives.
I had an Eden D210XLT that I teamed up with my Bergantino AE410 and ran the MG800 at 2.67 ohms. It was massive and cracked the dry wall in my house. I can't see ever needing that much sound...The MG and 410 scares me a certain volumes at 4 ohms.

It looks like it is pretty feature rich... Personally, I don't care for software based front ends... but it looks like a serious piece of gear. Given the choice between this and my MG800... I'll keep the Magellan.

Crown can do it easily, and even operate into 2 Ohms easily. And even do it in stereo.
Agreed. I've always been a "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it" kinda player. Why buy a 300w amp that MIGHT do the job when, for a few more bucks, you can get an 800 or 1200w the WILL do the job. How many threads have we all seen that went "I bought this amp for my practice/acoustic duo gig, but now I'm in a 5-pc death metal band and I need another amp". If the bigger amp was purchased first, there wouldn't be a need for another amp, unless you just like buying amps, which I completely understand...
We could all probably get by with 300w, but I also feel like a 1200w amp will "feel" better at the same volume. Maybe not 4x better, but better nonetheless...
Remember 20 years ago when 750 watts was massive and for “arena gigs”? And cost it too? Now we can get boutique amps with 800 watts for less than $1k- much less in the case of Genzler...
Instead of a single 1000W or more power amp I guess it would make better sense to have a 2x500W or 2x800W power amp. This provides better options for driving more cabs and impedance combinations.
