My college era cabs were the first computer-designed bass reflex cabs for bass guitar in the USA, designed and built by me. A partner & I did the very first computer program (FORTRAN) for vented-box design using the electrical filter response approximations mathematics of Thiele/Small. 1972-1973, I think.

As for the HPF, the manual indicates that it has "a precision high order active high pass filter" in both Magellan amps. I don't have the specifics of what the frequency, slope, etc. of those filters are, but one would assume that it is low enough to ensure that high-gain active electric basses with low B strings still have plenty of guts (because they do).

Jeff himself told me that the Magellan amps have a built in HPF at 30hz, 12 db roll-off. That is what I would use anyways with an outboard hpf. I can get it pretty loud and my speakers still thump clear and deep and seem to have room to go.

Hey Mark, this is pretty much spot on with the 15" cabinet discussion. I do think 15's are a little more "old school" and that the current generation of the 12" drivers we use just don't seem to lack anything in the LF foundation.

The early reviews of the Forte HP have mentioned the heft and weight of the notes, making it sound less "class d" and more lead sled.... it's not so much about total watts, it's whats on tap for transients and such. While I have no complaints about the power, volume and tone I can get with the MG800, I wouldn't complain about more.

That being said, different strokes for different folks- there are people in here who are content with the MG350 and one cabinet.
