Can the Magellan 800 hardcore? Yes it can. A resounding “yes.” One month ago, first show with the new band, first show with the MG800. Ram it through the headliner’s Ampeg 810. Sounded huge, thick, full, and ferocious. With two half stacks on stage (Mesa Dual Rec and a H&K Black Spirit), I was at maaaybe 25-30% juice. You can see it peeking around in the background.

What a beautiful set up. Question – do you find that losing the stage contact by having the cabinet up in the air is worth the cool look? Not trying to be snarky – I have been told (by Jeff) that my 12-3 cabs are actually designed to sound better by having ‘stage contact’.
I actually got in trouble with my band with a severe coupling issue at one location. Wooden stage and you could feel my bass through your feet over the whole stage. Couldn't turn down as I was not going through FOH so we suffered through the first set then uncoupled it with a borrowed wooden crate from the kitchen.
@Loring is playing the same stage coming up in the near future.
You know, the coupling thing has always been a bit of a mystery to me. I certainly have had issues in the past with big boomy stages when I had amps that sat directly on the floor, and with my two 12-3's I keep them raised up, mostly for the sake of having them closer to to my head, using a pair of large black milk crates. I haven't noticed that they lack anything as a result, but I do hear them better.
When I inevitably get around to buying a third 12-3 I will get rid of the milk crates, and I suppose that will tell me something.
Cement floors are fine. Very strong wooden stages are okay. Raised platforms and impromptu stages are coupling hell with my double stack of BA-12-3's. I have a milk crate for everything that is not a cement floor.
For those bad stages I try to get a line into FOH if there's room on the board so I can reduce my stage volume as well.

I used coupling to my advantage with my MG350 on a hollow stage. Little amp sounded like a PA system...well, not quite but it was huge sounding.
That makes me ask the question why is a cabinet that big really needed with majority of gigs having FOH support also? I've been there with 3 12-3 arrays and 2 of the 210-3 arrays and loved them, but never used them over 40-50% max no matter the size of the venue. That's why I'm tickled to death now with my 350 and 10-2 stack. It easily handles anything I have and still I don't use is 50-60% maxed at most.
I have had really good luck using this Auralex pad on boomy stages. Takes the boom away without totally killing the low end.

Well, while I've never had all 3 of my 12-3's out of the house at the same time, there's just something about that punch that you get from a stack. I would imagine it's the same with the 410- when I had SWR 4x10's years ago (RIP to them and their weight
), even one 410 was nice to get the pant legs flapping... no offense to you 350 combo guys, but I think the comparison is like a studio monitor (accurate and detailed) to blasting your tower speakers and subs (although the BA in the Genzler stuff does help with the clarity and accuracy). Rock and roll is about excess, after all.
