I am amazed by the 350 and one cab!
I find it hard trying to play with the drummer of one of the bands I play in and don’t want his ratt-ta-tat-tat in my ear all night long. Terrible time keeper. Thinks he’s a pocket drummer. Roughly plays the same drum pattern over ever song!
Yikes! I have been super lucky with drummers, since my brother has been the drummer in 90% of my bands. I have definitely auditioned with some bad ones! A co-workers husband had a band and they needed a bass player. He asked me over and was shocked I was good lol. He thought it was a great fit, and I told him no way could I play with a drummer who can’t get back to the beat after a fill.
Said drummer later stole half their gear (they practiced at his house) and sold it to support his drug habit lol.

The drummer in my case started the band and I was really only in it for the money to support my bass gear buying habit, but it got to the point where it was more than I could bare and resigned as the bass player Saturday. The last straw situation for me was at the last gig...we were experiencing a lot of feed back and everybody except him stop playing and singing to try and eliminate the cause. I looked over at him and motioned with my hands for him to stop playing, too, and he like refused to stop. He calls me later accusing me of disrespecting him and stated there was a better way for me to have done that(?).
Anyway, I said it won't happen again and vowed not to play for that band again.

I have been fortunate to play with some amazing drummers throughout my career. I grew up, played in several bands and toured with drummer extraordinaire Mike Mangini of Dream Theater back in the 80s. My current drummer goes to Berklee and has played with Victor Wooten at his Woodshed sessions at the school. A solid drummer is a must for me.

Vintage photo of me (middle) and Mike (on right). The other guy Dave Axelbaum is a producer in Chicago. This was taken on the road to NY from Boston back in ‘83!
Every drummer has their interpretation of time and pulse. I've played with drummers who are pushing the beat from behind, pulling the band along, or right in the pocket. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. One of my favorite drummers and best friends is super technical, still takes weekly lessons from a nationally known pro, and after 30 years playing together we still argue about where the groove should be. Occasionally I'll work with a new drummer and can 'lock up' with them right from the downbeat. Actually, I think that playing with a variety of drummers has broadened my perspective and abilities to play a variety of styles and grooves.
Here's the funniest drummer of all time, and a monster player, Dave King, digging into the rhythm section thing with Bad Plus mate Reid Anderson. If using an external preamp (Alembic F-1X) with a Magellan 800, do I go into the receive jack of the effects loop or the AUX input?
I have been out of the game for about 21 years now. Recently dusted off the gear and fired up the amp. I had the pleasure to work for Jeff Genzler at Genz Benz in mid to late 1990s. Nothing made my heart happier than to see his new products at Milano's Music in Mesa, AZ.

Genzler Magellan 800 AUX IN feature.
I do this all the time.
Computer's headphones out into Aux in, plug in your headphones/inears, no need for a mixer.
Though you can add a mixer and use the Magellan as just a power amp for PA use.
Or if the PA goes out and you need to run the DIed only Acoustic Guitar into your Rig also.

Absolutely, it’s a great feature. I have been using it a lot to stay fresh on our material in between shows.
