Agreed. In fact, if I had the slant 12 I may not have swapped out to the 15 + 210 combo. I was looking at the slant 12 when the 15 hit. Great timing or terrible timing? The world may never know.

I just bought the 410 a few weeks ago and even it is 'light'.....all things considered. The dispersion was a big selling point for me. I just played Friday night at one of those gigs where I have to stand right in front of the amp. It's also the only room we play that I use the amp to carry the room. The Genzler rig made a huge difference! I could hear everything much clearer and was told the bass filled the room way better than my old setup did. Genzler FTW!

I bought a BA12-SLT right around the time news of the BA15-SLT broke. I’m sure the 15 is amazing but to me, the slant 12 gives me so much more than I could ever ask for from so compact and lightweight a package that I have no regrets.

Went from playing one of the biggest live venues in the city on Friday night...

To playing an all-ages show at bowling alley last Saturday night...

The cabs killed in both places! Both shows were big fun, and my rig was just outstanding both nights! There's some AMAZING gear available right now! Good time to be a bassist...

Just wondering if there are any MG800 amp owners who have also used Ampeg amplifiers? In particular the PF500. I have tried that one out with a single Ampeg SVT210av cabinet.
I like the "Ampeg sound", its really nice and I could easily be quite happy with it. However I also like to have the option of good clean headroom. Perhaps I'm wrong, and the cab could influence this, but I didn't hear a lot of clean when I tried to dial it in on the Ampeg stuff.
I'm confident (from what I have read) that the MG800 will cover clean very well but can it come close to that Ampeg sound as well?

I’ve owned the pf350 and at one time I had 3 SVTs. I think it can nail it, but like you said, also be clean. There’s not very many amps that can do both nicely and that’s why this one’s special.

My tone with the MG800 into an SWR 6x10 is basically an SVT facsimile, but with more control over the breakup/overall tone in general. I run mine with the drive turned up, a little bit of modern contour, and the eq basically straight up with a slight bump in the low-mids. I run a B7K in front of it in my current project, which requires a heavily driven tone, but even with just the MG, I can do SVT wonderfully, and so much more.

With my MG 800 the mids have a very SVT quality with my P bass with flats.
Warm but a little cleaner than Ampeg. Adjust the tone settings and it's a really nice sounding head.

Believe it or not but before I had a chance to audition a Magellan 800, I was planning on buying an Ampeg PF50T. Keep in mind I don’t play out, only recently got back into playing bass and only rarely play with other musicians. BUT, after sampling the 800, I was done. It got me close enough to the Ampeg sound I knew to enable me to ditch any notion of a PF50T and step into the 21st century. The Magellan 800/BA12-3 makes me smile every time I turn it on.

My 2 cents, with the Magellan 800, getting that Ampeg type of tone is all about using the B Contour (Amber) and experimenting with the Clean or Drive Channels. The B contour tapers the ultra lows, and highs and provides a nice 200Hz bump which provides plenty of "classic" tonal expressions, rolling the control past the noon setting really gets you there. Of course all dependent upon instrument, pick ups, etc. And remember the DRIVE channel does not need to be set to an over-driven extent. It also tapers lows and highs as you "roll-up" the GAIN control.

Hey everybody. Looking for some input...

I currently use a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 which is my favourite head of all time. I love the low end specifically. I use a Mike Lull M4V active jazz bass and two Bergantino AE 210 cabinets. I play funk and soul and gig regularly, so I'm looking for a backup amp.

I'm interested in the new Genzler heads but have no opportunity to try one out. Can someone give me a sense of the tones of this head. If you've got experience to compare it with the sound of the Streamliner, even better.

Although I never owned a Streamliner, I know all about them and know what they do. The MB800 Drive channel along with Contour B will get you close to the Tube sound of the Streamliner. I think the MB800 will give you more punch out of those AE cabs as well.

Agree with Joey, but another thing to consider is that the non-drive channel is just like warm chocolate sauce on top of NY cheesecake smooth. Gives you another option you can't really get on the Streamliner (I've owned that one too).
