me and a buddy are combining rigs to do this exact setup for his festival this summer. I have 2 15"cabs and he has the 4x10 and I am letting him use one so we both can see what its like, any suggestions on setup? I bet it roars like thunder man. mmmmmm #goals

My Muck is a pretty bright and punchy bass. It’s passive but I’m able to use coil switching to get some tonal variation. That said I typically leave my highs pretty flat and maybe give the lows a slight boost. Sometimes I’ll sweep the mids to somewhere around 2kish and maybe give a slight cut. I’ll also use the A contour at times to smooth things out and there are times I leave it off. We play a lot of country/rock and that works well for me. There is plenty of heft to the 4X10 and it reproduces whatever tones you might like no problem.

Yeah I play with the 2 15"STL and he plays with the 4x10 and he will borrow mine as said just to see what its like. He plays in the band steady flow which is funk and hip-hop r&b jam band. So there could be spots where the ability to do bass bombs will be fun.

@Jeff Genzler, I love, love LOVE my new Genzler slant 12/3s!!! I haven't had them more than a week, but they sound fantastic and the entire "line array" philosophy is something I have believed in for a long time, with 20+ years of various rig iterations, all sharing in the vertical column configuration. First generation was a pair of Acme B2s, then Schroeders, a massive dual Fearful 15" tower (still have!) - and now the Genzlers.

The second I saw the Bass Array design concept - and particularly the slanted-upwards design - I knew immediately it was what I wanted out of my next generation setup. I tried both the 10" and the 12" cabinets and found the added fullness of the 12s" met my preferences best. As a builder of my own custom instruments, I am VERY particular about my rig choices which is why I abandoned most everything on the commercial market and went the Fearful route when they first came out. Now with these Genzlers, they sound sound very even, and fantastic all the way down to an open B string...but in a much smaller and easier-to-move footprint. I'm also finding that the lack of a traditional tweeter sounds much more natural and less like a very source-specific trebly "hot spot" coming from a specific corner of the cabinets, like in so many other rigs I've used in the past. And, they don't have that "boxy" quality that seems to plague a lot of small- and medium-sized enclosures. REALLY well done my friend. I'm very excited to continue building out this rig with an MG 800 and another 12/3 to complete the stack (I'm 6'5" and the notion of a full line array of matched 12"s is just too good to be true).

Speaking of - I'd love some input on a third 12/3, and what makes the most sense in terms of adding either another slant to match the others, or a straight 12". Just curious if there are very strong recommendations one way or another as I consider the options. Would love any suggestions as I look ahead to completing this tower of power. Thanks!

I added the 3rd 12-3 to my MG 800 and to me it just made this setup a monster. I have 2 ST and 1 SLT. I put the SLT on top to aim at my ears. Next time I would maybe go with 2 SLT's although I always worry that the head wouldn't stay put. I figure the 2 ST to blast the venue and the SLT for me. I came from and SVT & 810 and I sure think this tops that. I think it sounds better and it's got all the balls I need... Even for outside gig.

Since you asked, I would go slant on the bottom then straight straight. This would keep all three baffles on the same plain and point the whole stack towards your ears. IMHO (to my ears) this is the best sonic response for the player and best dispersion for the room. It's great to have so many options.

I sometimes wish I needed cabs for my gigs. I love being all IEM and less to haul, but it would be fun to have backline. Yet, I have no idea what I'd do. I love my MG350/112T-V combo. A second 12T-V would be awesome. But the 3 cab stacks and 15's and all that sure look - and sound - fantastic.

As for adding another BA cab, I would recommend the BA12-3STR, the straight version. If you already have 2 SLT versions, I think the Straight version would offer you some stacking options that will offer you some different performance characteristics depending upon how you stack them. And since you say you are so tall, a 3 stack rig would be very beneficial to you.
That would be my recommendation. Certainly let us know what you decide upon.

I sometimes wish I needed cabs for my gigs. I love being all IEM and less to haul, but it would be fun to have backline. Yet, I have no idea what I'd do. I love my MG350/112T-V combo. A second 12T-V would be awesome. But the 3 cab stacks and 15's and all that sure look - and sound - fantastic.

The thing about having more than you think you need, is you still control the master volume. Even though it's more work hauling in the gear, it's still a lot less than it was years ago, and as a bass player, I just have to feel the power of the bottom end... It's why I became a bass player!!

sometimes i want to sell the 2nd 15" cab but as a wise pro in my area says. when you get to bigger stages youll be glad you got the head and cab for the headroom.

Thanks everyone for your input! @Jeff Genzler those are indeed a couple of my builds and if you think those are awesome you're gonna flip when you see the brand new one that is just awaiting electronics installation. A new bass like that needs a worthy amplification system. Thus, my 12/3 tower.

The consensus definitely points towards adding a straight 12/3 cabinet to my existing pair of slants rather than adding a third slant. As I think about it, this approach seems to add much more setup flexibility than being tied to a trio of 12/3s that are always gonna stack up the same no matter what. Am I missing anything?

In the market for a new head, for the last maybe decade or so I've been using mine as a power amp for a VT Bass (amongst other) preamps. I've been looking at higher range models, as I'd like extra peace of mind about build quality and reliability.

Come across the Magellan 800 and bloody hell, it sounds fantastic. That and the GR Dual Bass are the only two that have made me think I could put the Sansamp on the shelf, and be happy with the head itself.

I don't know if it's just demo quality or what, but the Magellan is easily my favourite sounding I've come across so far. That contour knob looks incredible, and I quite like the idea of the fairly low gain drive channel.

In my band, I use a couple of different distortion pedals, as well as reverb/delay/phaser/tremolo to various degrees. So I guess my question here is, how is the Magellan 800 with pedals? Any unhappiness with running a drive into it, or issues with time and modulation concerns? Any reliability issues?

At this point, I think my main choice is to order online or wait until I can try one in person, but if it somehow doesn't work well with a pedalboard run into it, I'd like to know what issues there are. Thanks in advance!

I run pedals in front of Magellan and they sound great. I use Darkglass, Strymon and Genzler pedals all with great results! There is also an effects loop if you like to run reverb, delay that way.

The Magellan 800 is an amazing amp that is so easy to dial in a great tone!
