I've had my MG800 over 6 years now and I bought it used. It has taken a few bumps (thankfully in the padded carry case) and seen plenty of gig/rehearsal time.....some of those venues that still allow smoking and outdoor venues in plenty of heat/humidity. Other than the scratch that is on the top from the original owner you would probably think it was brand new. Controls all turn smooth and are noise free, all connectors like power and speakon are solid and the DI is still amazing. I think you'll be happy!

I always welcome if the additional weight is spend in improved reliability. I don't like to worry about my equipment live and rather like to fully focus on performance instead. That's why I rather spend a more bucks for premium pro equipment which I can rely on than wasting my time with cheap crappy stuff giving me worry.

I thought I could manage through this by closely monitoring the preamp/master volume intensities but finally decide to give in and get higher-rated cabs and avoid blowing drivers.

Since weight is a major issue, I first went for a Magellan ULV-212T and have been thoroughly satisfied with that move. After waffling on whether to replace a beloved 208 cab, I finally decided to try the Magellan ULV-112T. It arrived yesterday. I was surprised by the small and compact size (not to mention the 19.5 pound weight). Built like a tank. Looks great. And so easy to move! After breaking it in for 4-5 hours with a solid dose of Duck Dunn basslines, I cycled through all my basses and the two amps. There is no physical way a 112 can match the girth and presence of a 212, and this was true for the 112T. However, I was pleasantly surprised to capture some of the larger cab's presence with a small boost of the bass EQ. In cycling through my basses and amps, the 112T clearly reflected unique characteristics of each configuration. What you put in is what you get. Equally important is tone: the 112T sounds exactly like the 212T, which makes using either cab more predictable.

The most useful discovery was performance of the 112T in my music room, which is a sound treated bedroom with 11 foot ceiling. The 212T, while sounding great in that room, also was overpowering the room with its presence in a band setting -- even at lower volume. I guess it was due to the large volume of air being moved by the dual driver cab? In contrast, the single driver 112T creates bass in perfect balance with the small room's acoustics. Super happy with this practical discovery--especially for acoustic recording!

The other benefit is I can use both cabs together as a stack thanks to both amps' support of 2.67 ohms. I couldn't run a stack before 'cause my old 208 was 4 ohms; so is the 212T.

The first photo is of the 212/112 stack. I can't imagine "needing" a full stack but if my imagination proves wrong, my gear will be ready for action! The second photo is the 112T in its new daily position. As usual, Jeff Genzler provided terrific, speedy help in answering my questions. Thanks Jeff and the whole Genzler crew for such amazing gear!

I posted back in July '24. Some time in 2025, I picked up an Acoustic Array Pro + BA2 112-3-STR cab I had on layaway. Somehow, I forgot to post here!

Studio's is disarray at the moment. Excuse the mess. No, that stack is not meant to be all one rig... lol

Had a fun one last night. We had to squeeze onto the small indoor stage due to weather but we got it done. I ended up running the pad switch on and I think I ended up with the master volume at about 9 o clock…. :smug: We just ran vocals in the PA and I was able to roll the tone back on the bass as well as goose the onboard bass knob a little and got a nice fat tone for the country tunes we were doing. We had a nice little crowd and the small room made for a nice low volume gig….easy on the ears too. Was the BA410 overkill…..absolutely! Did it sound amazing…..you bet!

Got an Fdeck HPF-Pre Series 3 for the Magellan 800 and boy what a difference! Doesn't take much to make a difference in my music room--maybe setting the crossover about 45/50Hz. Instantly the tone is more rich and balanced for the room. This would be a magical feature in the new 800+ amp.

Congratulations on the new rig. Just out of curiosity what were you using before and how does that compare to the Genzler? Thanks!

The Genz replaced a GR Bass AT212+ which replaced a Mesa Subway 212.

I had played the Mesa Subway 212 for years and absolutely LOVED it. Having said that, I play 100+ shows per year and at 52 lbs I just got tired of the weight. It wasn't heavy, but by today's standards why go with extra weight if you don't have to?

Bring in the GR Bass....AMAZING weight, power handling and great tone but something never quite sat right with me with that cab. I played it for about 6 months and then had the opportunity to try the Genz locally and I was blown away. Basically all of the things I loved about my Mesa 212 but only 34 lbs.
