Yes sir....I would actually have to use 3 of the Genzler heads at 2400 watts to power all nine. Each head can power 3 cabs, but since I have external power amps I'd be using that with all nine. I own 2 Lab Gruppen IDP2400 1 space power amps, light weight (13 lbs ea) and powerful 2400 watts ea, so I would be using 4800 watts to power them all. Talk about headroom!

Yes, I misspoke about the 9 and the 6 as I wrote that before I saw the 9 figure and went back and improperly edited; I knew about the 3 cab per Magellan 800 as I am sitting here looking at such an animal right now. You should be well heard!

It will be interesting to see if there is much tonal change between the Magellan, and the Magellan front end driving a LG power amp.

The Mesa WA didn’t work out so well as the output is before the driver tube, and I suspect other attempts suffered from either an impedance mis-match, sensitivity mismatch, or other tech issues I never bothered to study as the outcome was not acceptable.

I don't plan to use the pre of the Magellan with my power amp. I have a very high-end channel strip preamp and what most would consider "best-of-the-best" although quite expensive but worth every penny. It's the Millennia TD-1. And for that matter I never did try to use the front end of any head I've owned with a poweramp. I also have and use a very nice pedal pre/DI that sounds great called the basswitch. Stupid tone! It's German made. I don't know what it is about German made items but all I've owned live up to their hype. Another German made pre I love although is a onboard pre is Noll. Those are right down the best pre-amps my ears have ever heard and I've had them all. They are a little bright in the treble but once you cut that back a bit it's bass heaven from there! For a even more stupidest tone, I come out of the basswitch or any other pre for that matter (except for my TD-1 its to clean already) and go into the A-designs REDDI then go out of the REDDI into the poweramp. Now I have gain on the input and output. Talk about a stupid loud and stupid clean warm tube tone. But the best of the external pre's for me is the millenia TD-1 which in itself is really a studio channel strip and not per say a true "bass pre." But beware that your technique better be up to par because this pre is so clean that it will expose it to everyone listening.

I’ve never had the pleasure to try a Basswitch (although the reviews on TB are very strong), or the Noll.

Have you ever tried the Vintech X73?
It’s based on a 1073 Neve console strip.
I’ve used a Neve console with this module and hear great things about the rack mount pre as well.
Did you get a chance to try the Subway before you purchased the Magellan?

Yes I have tried it and it's really nice also. I have not used it on bass but rather my home studio. I also have a avalon 737sp which sounds great on bass. I went through a lot of equipment setting up my home recording studio trying to find the right stuff. I just finished a few months ago. Looking forward to recording my first album in it soon. I think it turned out pretty good for it being my first time...talk about miles of wire....I'm super sick of soldering!

I see your into the details of how things look like I am...I say this because most people wouldn't even have known what "faux" painted walls was....I didn't even know that was the name of the paint treatment was...lol no I'm kidding I knew.

Anyhow the cab is the IP310 series. And I had 2 of them...talk about stupid loud! I used the millennia TD-1 as the pre. And compressor is called retro doublewide made by retro instruments. Great compressor.

Holy-moly, 9,3/4, serious gear.

No envy though, I'm very happy for you to have that setup, but I'm equally happy with my setup:

LOVED the cabs straight out of the box, and they quickly replaced my 2 EBS 410 Evolution.

Have had the head for a couple of weeks and didn't quite gel with it until last night.
I always felt it was stunningly made, great size and weight (just right), great set of features, plenty of punch, and that Contour B. Played it at home, rehearsal, and a couple of gigs. Yet somehow I wasn't quite happy - it wasn't "my" sound (EBS1v2 pre into Peavey IPR2 3000 DSP), super-clean at any volume. Just could't get that.

But last night it all fell into place, or possibly more correctly my exceptions of "my" sound were slightly modified. With a slight bass and mid boost, and a slight treble roll-of on the Z2, I used the clean channel (gain between 9 and 10 o'clock), Contour B at about the same position, EQ flat, and master at about 11 o'clock. And it just fit, and worked. If anything I was probably a little too loud on stage but there was so much clarity, definition AND punch in each note it wasn't funny. It sat perfectly in the mix (in terms of sonic space, like I said maybe a little too loud). And the DI (pre-EQ) signal was apparently quite spectacular because quite a few folks from the audience commented on the bass sound. So all's well that ends well.

I now have a rig that fits into a small hatchback (rather than a medium-sized wagon), is a single loading on a small trolley rather than at least two trips), and sounds better.

Considering how punchy 2 are I can hardly imagine 6 BA12-3s - enjoy - I know I will .

Thanks haven't had time as of yet to record but I will soon. Working on my smooth jazz album. I'm far from a engineer so I need time to learn all of this stuff. Protools HD is a totally different beast than regular Protools. In fact, I'm looking for some one who can kind of show me the ropes. If any of you live out this way (Georgia) and are fimiliar with studio work and want to hook up for fun hit me up.

I have to admit I have very little experience with the EBS stuff, was just making an assumption. Solo I prefer Contour A but in room prone to rumble I like to use a little B Contour and boost the highs a bit to make up for the high end roll off.

My friend had a Z3 for a while and I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. That bass totally won me over. Played the Nolly and one of the 4 string P's and just continue to be impressed with Dingwalls.

Glad your happy with yours I'm sure happy with mine! Just feels like these cabs were made for me. I can think of a few times that I'll use the total 6 stack maybe outdoor gigs and stadium. For the most part I'll be using 2-4 cabs. Just purchased another Magellan 800 now whether I use my big rack or just the 2 magellan's I'll have more than enough headroom. I like to keep as much headroom as possible. Everyone has there tone and I believe the head can't emulate many styles. Believe me I'm one of the guys who refuse to sacrifice tone for weight. I would carry a 62lb amp the rest of my life if it gets me my tone over shedding 56 of those pounds for a lightweight amp that makes me feel sad and depressed when I'm playing. Let's face it music comes from the inside of you and is a very emotional thing. The ability to improv and communicate music for me has a lot to do with first how it sounds and secondly how it feels when the sound is played. A bad sound doesn't spontaneously inspire me to play anything...same for playing on a bad instrument. Thanks for chiming in my Genzler brother!

Congratulations on your new Genzler gear! I've been playing thru the new Genzler amplification gear 2 BA 12-3s and Magellan since Dec 2015 and I'm absolutely loving every minute of every day that I play thru them!
