Genzler Amplification ! New Genz Benz ?

Jeff, or anyone else, have experience with the BA12-3 and an upright? amp would likely be walkabout. I'm interested mostly in the mid drivers, I know they would help you be heard better, much like how I like my NV115 with the upright. the BA has 2 more of those mid drivers, and more is better, right?

Hey Gary,

While I don't have any experience with an upright, I can tell you that the WA/12-3 combo is a religious experience. There's always good combinations out there in respect to heads/cabs and that is definitely one.

I also gig the NeoX-212. Very interested in a head to head with the Magellan 212 as well.

The brown truck dropped off the Magellan 800 last night. :) I spent about an hour with it plugged into a Baer ML112 v2.
I must say, I am IMPRESSED. First off, the form factor & finish are SUPERB. I mean just plain fantastic. Great job!!! :thumbsup:

Using it, I was able to coax any tone "I want" from it using just the contours and clean/drive channels. Already I can say that the clean is just that: clean. And both are very articulate, nothing flubby there. And the EQ is very responsive, where a small twist is all that is needed (for my tastes).

I have not yet to experience it at band volume so I cannot attest to any "note heft" as described by other users (as I was using it in my dining room with lots of glass & tile floors), but I'll give it a go at band rehearsal this week or this weekend (just a basement with lots of concrete, so... meh; unfortunately no upcoming gigs on the calendar for a bit [I need to gig soon :meh:]).

Also, I'll spend some time this weekend to compare it against my GK MBF800 with two ML112's as well as the Schroeder PL212.

First impressions from last night: WINNER!!! :bassist:

Are you worried about playing it too hard at first? Or whether it will get better with use? I asked the same question when mine arrived.

agedhorse had this to say in that thread

In general, breaking in speakers is a much exaggerated internet myth because by the time you drive the speaker hard enough to change the properties of the soft parts, you are beginning to damage the suspension anyway. There may be a slight change, but it's really small under any reasonable scenario (and with quality parts).

I've had mine since October. My first weekend I used it on two gigs - a lower volume church service and a medium volume club gig. I use a single BA12-3. It sounded superb in both settings. My perception is that it has gotten better as I've used it but it could be that I'm getting more accustomed to it. In any case, it does everything I hoped it would do and thus far, one has been enough for my needs.

Yeah I was just wondering if it would get better over time. Case in point: I bought a new Schroeder cab. from Jorg who mentions a break in period of 20hrs at moderate volume after which it will
will sound smoother and warmer without loosing any clarity in the upper registers.

I thought the same might apply here.

okay guys I finally received my second MG800 head today and hook up both heads as following: The first amp I used as my main head/preamp and the second head as just the poweramp. Nothing on the second head works except for the master volume knob which controls the gain of just the poweramp. For those who are interested in how I did this, I accomplished this by using the effects send and return. On the main head I use the send of the effects loop which sends the preamp out to the return of the effects loop on the second amp which drives just the poweramp. This is the easiest way to have one preamp driving all six speakers instead of fighting 2 preamps and maybe getting different tones.

I am so excited at what I heard today that it's hard to even express with words how I feel about this rig.... I have seriously found my tone and this has not happen in all of my 20 years playing. Don't get me wrong I've found tone that I could live with but not exactly everything I wanted. I never thought I'd ever be saying this but this set up actually sounds better than my 2400 watt pre/power amp. And it's surely a whole lot quieter. Talk about guts! I think I will go on record saying that it sounded louder and if you want to know exactly how loud they can get just look at my next post! I am seriously think that I will now be selling both of my big racks. I mean why carry around 50+lbs when you can get the same or even more from 12lbs? Unbelievable I'm so excited about playing again not that I've lost the love but now I want to play all the time! When's the next gig!

I think that with all of the variables in a signal chain that any "break in" of high quality driver components in this cabinet would probably be imperceptible. That does not mean that your rig does not sound better to you the more you use it.
I think that's more the learning process of what you enjoy hearing and how you react to that enhanced response.

Maybe its like .... drinking very fine wine and deep conversation. The more you drink and the more you talk, the more everything makes more sense.

Ok folks this is a first for me and I'm now in the dog house with the wife because of it. Riddle me this....What happens when you put 6 Genzler BA12-3 cabs together and power them with 2 Genzler Magellan 800 amps? 5 minutes into playing this happened....and the speaker weren't even facing the Windows...Unbelievable!
