Genzler Amplification ! New Genz Benz ?

I had the opportunity to play through an MG800 and a Bass Array 12/3 cab today and directly compare it to one of my beloved AudioKinesis TC112V2 cabs.
All I can say is...Well done Mr. Genzler.
The MG800 sounds superb and WOW does that 12/3 cab project midrange! Super smooth and articulate midrange to boot. It is clearly a more efficient cab than my TC but they are both different flavors of awesome with different tone and performance goals.

The MG800 is on my short list to replace my former Tecamp Puma 900. It's hard to put into words but the MG800 just sounds great, no matter how you EQ it, what contours you use or if you use the Clean or Drive section. I simply couldn't get a bad tone out of it. I tried it with the 12/3 cab, the Magellan 112, the Magellan 212 and my TC. It sounded great with all of them but paired the the 12/3...pretty freakin' awesome.

+1 I agree that the Magellan 800 works really well with about any cab, but there is some special magic with the BA12-3.

Well, I've had a Magellan 800 for a few weeks now. It is so versatile that I'm rethinking my pedalboard completely... there may be a massive pedal-purge coming. Last night I went bass > tuner > MG800 > 2 x Baer ML-112 / FOH thru DI out. Sound tech loved it, and even had me turn up!

I'm seeing less need for all the other 'stuff'... This amp is just THAT good!

I didn't need to read this. While I have a very good, simple, small and light DI board (Nano with tuner/comp/DI/IEM) it is very clean and I have thought about trying either more pedals (which never seems to work for me) or a head and going post on the DI as we are silent stage so there are no tweaks to the amp for stage use to mess up tbe FOH.

It would be nice - if I had this amp - to use it for more than just practice at home. I'm guessing I could even leave it set almost the same if I had a BA cab which is "line array-esque" For home practice.

I'd still need my board as I need my tuner/mute pedal, compressor and I have a handy set up for my wired IEM's so it means one more thing, but if the tone is that good, maybe I'd get used to it.

If I could sell my fretless I could afford to try it. Maybe Greg would trade me...

Positive! you can verify the credit card I used to pay for the 6 cabs and 2 amps from Brian Barrett at thelowend.net. Although I wish I was on payroll I could have saved me a bunch of dough. Oh wait I actually bought my 2nd head off of eBay from Van Gelder's music in New York. You know it really is a shame that everyone is always overly suspicious if someone is raving about the equipment they love. "He's talking about it to much so he must be endorsed or works for them!" LOL. And I think I now remember why I haven't posted anything in over 10 years concerning gear I liked. I remember I did so once when I first got on TB and a few guys accused me of working for the company because I was raving so much about it. I can understand why some would feel that way maybe thinking it's some sort of marketing ploy by Genzler but in this case it's not. While you or other guys may not know me personally there are guys on TB who do, and have met me personally and know that every piece of gear I have... I have because I paid for it. They also know that I'm a anal kind of guy when it comes to my equipment but because of that anything you buy from me used will be in mint condition even after owning it 10 years but that's a different story. My point is this...seriously I'm really just a passionate guy about his sound and am overly excited because what I've always dreamed of hearing from my amp and cabs is finally here and reality!

I had another one of my musician friends come over today who in fact just left who is also I keyboardist/bassist and his comments was "I'm blown away at the speakers but what I'm really blown away with is all the sound that can come out of this little amp! It's so light" Just mind blowing!

It sings thru anything, I just don't seem to have a need for it. May have a trade going for a nice 4 string jazz type bass. We'll see. Not sure I'd get much for my current little rig.

How cool that the guys who didn’t mind hauling heavy gear are now converting.
And, I test drove a Genlzer gear at the music store this afternoon and that amp is thick with a lot of mids to my ears.
So much different than our reference MB800, Ashdown, and a Peavey MM.

Thank you for clearing the air sir...glad you finally tested one for yourself. The real shocker is when you gig them. Again my first thoughts were that the MG800 wasn't going to cut it. But at the gig it cuts thru the mix like a hot knife thru room temperature butter! And the first time I played it I was using my Berg HD410....No kidding! WOW!

Well, I am happy to say the MG800/12-3 arrays passed the gig test with flying colors last night. I really didn't even have to push the amp at all...it was barely above idle. I'm still dumbfounded on how much juicy, clean, thick (but not congested) low end this rig delivers.

The EQ responds so well to quick, "under duress" gig changes. This rig is a definite keeper.

That array sure looks cool. With the array narrowing vertical dispersion, do you have any issues hearing the upper frequencies when standing close? Also, how tight is the bottom end? From Tom bowlus's review, it sounds like they are voiced very flat so, if you want to get a traditional cab sound with that high mid snarl, you would really have to crank them. Does that sound about right?

These are very smooth sounding cabs, for sure, so if you want some snarl, you need to add it. But if you do, they will reproduce it, which is cool. The low is very full but very controlled. The low mids are just amazing, in terms of being balanced and full, with no "bloated" areas.
