Genzler or Dark Glass?

Hello. I’m a working drummer who also plays bass. While my knowledge of drumming gear is very strong, I admit my knowledge of bass gear is limited.

I’ve been looking at small portable combos and have been thinking about the Genzler Magellan 350/ with MG12T-V Cabinet or the Darkglass DG112A 500 Watt.

Does anyone here have any experience with these 2 A or have a recommendation?

I would welcome your thoughts. Thank you.

Both are excellent: Darkglass is more conventional Combo has a little more power and features if attractive to you with Distodtion Drive and compression

All that said I would lean slightly to the Genzler

PS: Darkglass uses Ceramic Woofer which some prefer having maybe a more Classic/Old School tone
Genzler uses top notch Faital Neo Woofer

Both are very good IMO so you can’t go wrong with either.

My main concern is more about the after sales service and availability of spare parts if something happens.

I live North America so I usually prefer an American or a Canadian manufacturer to a European one.

I've never seen "Mr Darkglass" post anything ...
(though I'd happily be corrected : I'm all for manufacturers being called out caring )

Two VERY different voicings, I recommend playing both to see what works better for your personal tastes.

Really depends on what sorta configuration you want and which core sounds you're after.

Both look great, but are clear examples of divergent combo evolution.

Actually, "Mr Darkglass" used to be Douglas Castro and he has been posting here for a while, under the username "Darkglass". He has not been very active on Talkbass lately, though. Probably because he is not involved in Darkglass anymore, instead focusing on NeuralDSP.

I see quite a lot of interaction from Darkglass on threads for their products. For example, Iván Carranza has been very active and helpful on the Anagram thread and their customer services reps have also chimed in to initiate contact for issues.

Sure, so Darkglass went the way of Aguilar. KORG owns both now. As an Aguilar user, I miss being able to pick up the phone when I had questions.
Pretty sure I can still call Genzler.

Regardless of ownership structure, Darkglass still exists as their own operation in Finland. You can still talk to them.

I have tried the Darkglass and it seemed very focused on the lows and the amp had some nice tonal options, but I couldn't focus the bottom end the way I wanted to so it went back. If these were your only two choices would suggest the Genzler for the versatility alone. All the genzler cabs I ever played were very punchy and accepted EQ well and the Magellan amps are wonderful. Best to try out both to get your own ears opinion of any combo. Lots of folks like the Markbass combos as well. Let us know what you decide.

Now that’s funny
