The family business hires a lot of photographers. He must have a good eye for the art.

Our best photo guy at Hearst LA was a Brooks Institute grad, degree courtesy of Uncle Sam. For whatever reason they sent him to Alaska instead of to Vietnam, where he spent his stretch watching for incoming missiles that were never launched. And to my not-so-great shock, I spotted his wife in some old LA acid test footage.

I don't know, I've never seem him actually use any of his cameras. I think it was more a collecting and playing with them kind of thing.
...a Brooks Institute grad...
Some "wisdom" I learned while in L. A. was that Brooks produced good assistants; the photographers came out of Art Center.....................

Those LSD documentaries were interesting. I recall seeing some in the 60’s that were designed to dissuade people from taking drugs.

Bob Ross, the calm painter, was stationed in Alaska during Vietnam. He was a master sergeant at Eielson AFB. He must have lost his voice doing that job. If you want to be posted in Alaska, enlist in Florida.

The law always wins and love is all around.

A reply I posted earlier was deleted by the mods. I was not in any way questioning the mods decision. I was questioning the OP. The original post made no sense at all so I posted 4 question marks wondering what was meant by it.

Your post elicited comments. Everything related was removed because, as we found out, the policy is that any activity that requires administrative action can not be discussed. It’s a good thing.

Don't worry my friend - the mods just don't like you!! :roflmao:

A belated roll call. We fell asleep early in our recliners last night. Front and center please and report that all appendages accounted for and you're in fairly human condition. As mentioned, we fell asleep in our recliners early and Carey woke me up and led me to bed. Seems that even though the spirit is willing, the flesh is getting more tired as I get older. This working 8 hours and doing Tribal politics seems more and more like an activity for the young 'uns.

It's amazing that most of the time August and now September feel more like summer and less like fall. I made the mistake of not heeding Carey's advice and getting an AC last spring. Now we're too warm even into the night. We have an old 'swamp cooler' that works pretty good for what it is. But not like an AC for sure.

Kids are back in school so if I leave for work too late I have the fun experience of driving behind a long line of cars while a school bus makes its tedious stops. Back to school signs everywhere and already the markets are hinting at Halloween. My how we move from one holiday to the next with corn and sugar filled candy. Dentists must be happy!

What say ye, GOF's? What are you up to this weekend?

I’m planning on sleeping in tomorrow. Then go out to a bakery and buy something really tasty. A dog’s life.

Getting ready to build a ukulele.

Don't whine. Wine!

Tonight we're trooping over in a Lyfte mini-van with good friends to a wine tasting and buying party at another good friend's home. A couple of times a year they put on, not really an auction, but where you compete to buy, let's say, 4-24 bottles of a certain wine at a heavily discounted prices. If you want to play you get a numbered paddle and need to shout your way into the fracas. All in good fun, of course.

Lots of wine tasting, food, conversation and partying with 50 or so of our closet friends! Most we've met before. Starts early so I gots to go get ready.

Bye for now.

Don't call me tomorrow.

Happy you didn't as about appendages...afraid to look :nailbiting:.

Still getting the new RV ready for our first trip. Lots of accessories to get...Amazon loves me. Weather is cooler, kids are back in school, can't wait...

Last night and tonight; gig on a boat. Got home late, little sleep, had to be up early for client visit and hair appointment. Going back to the boat tonight with chuffed-up hair. Happy to have a paid gig, but am just sitting in to sub on this one while someone else is out of town. Don't mind getting paid, though.

Other than that, got nothing planned.

You're right. Life is good for the Hanburys in Alaska. :D Your wine party sounds fun, we have wine parties here but they are all out-of-state wines. I don't believe we have in-state wines yet. We do have a local micro-brewery that makes excellent micro brews. The local well heeled gentry decided to build a micro brewery and hired a German brewist (?) and our local brew has already been featured in a couple beer publications.

We went on a long walk to a hardware store to buy some bits. The weather man said, no rain till tonight, so we didn’t carry an umbrella. Over two hours from home, the sky clouded over and it started raining. Not the end of the world but the bits got all wet.
Did the weather man say that it wasn't going to rain where you were at, a two hour walk away from your home? ;)

I have been making photos and preparing for a meeting with the Zoning Board about a stupid zoning law. The law makes perfect sense if we were building a new driveway on a newly built up property today, but, in the real world, like in a 100 year + old neighborhood, it makes no sense at all.

When will these kinds of people pull their noses out of their Zoning rulebooks and take look around them? :banghead:

Good luck!

Who writes the zoning rules?
