I have been making photos and preparing for a meeting with the Zoning Board about a stupid zoning law. The law makes perfect sense if we were building a new driveway on a newly built up property today, but, in the real world, like in a 100 year + old neighborhood, it makes no sense at all.

When will these kinds of people pull their noses out of their Zoning rulebooks and take look around them?

There’s no simple way to ask for an exclusion. Now if you had some old records or photos that showed how the driveway was originally to make your case you’d be grandfathered in.

You know how to use photoshop and then print a photo to look like it’s 100 years old...not to change history but to make your case in a vintage way. They might relate to that form of presentation.

I'm hoping I get back to my senior advisor, on-call role next year. This 60 hour work week and needing to supervise folks stuff is definitely for the younger crowd - been there and done that for way too many years before I retired!

I do try to keep up with reading this thread though...it helps provide a sanity break from the work stuff.

How far back do they have records from past sales of property? How about old town records? There maybe old surveys/maps showing the old driveway.

I think in reality, the application stuff we need to submit is simply way more than needed for our particular project, as it is very general and has to cover any and all kinds of variance requests and requirements, probably. The SO found a clause in the city code (she actually read through a big part of it, must have nothing better to do ) that may exempt us from going through this, hopefully, but we can't do anything until Monday when the "city" is open for business.

The zoning code required a 3' setback between the property line and the edge of the driveway. Here is a photo I made this afternoon showing our's and the neighbor's driveways; the property linein right between them. So, going by the modern zoning code, both of us are in violation! That should have come up over a century ago when the neighborhood was being laid out and built.

Our house is on the right (built in 1917), the neighbor's house, on the left was built in 1914.

I find that good help is hard to find. Consultants, who are very well paid, are often ill equipped from a practical standpoint and require a lot of supervision.

We went on a long walk to a hardware store to buy some bits. The weather man said, no rain till tonight, so we didn’t carry an umbrella. Over two hours from home, the sky clouded over and it started raining. Not the end of the world but the bits got all wet.

A belated roll call. We fell asleep early in our recliners last night. Front and center please and report that all appendages accounted for and you're in fairly human condition. As mentioned, we fell asleep in our recliners early and Carey woke me up and led me to bed. Seems that even though the spirit is willing, the flesh is getting more tired as I get older. This working 8 hours and doing Tribal politics seems more and more like an activity for the young 'uns.

It's amazing that most of the time August and now September feel more like summer and less like fall. I made the mistake of not heeding Carey's advice and getting an AC last spring. Now we're too warm even into the night. We have an old 'swamp cooler' that works pretty good for what it is. But not like an AC for sure.

Kids are back in school so if I leave for work too late I have the fun experience of driving behind a long line of cars while a school bus makes its tedious stops. Back to school signs everywhere and already the markets are hinting at Halloween. My how we move from one holiday to the next with corn and sugar filled candy. Dentists must be happy!

Friday night Restaurant lounge gig. Decent $ and tips. Saturday night's CC gig cancelled due to Dorian damage. Also a decent paying gig, but not this time. Oh, well, sit around watching sports. Sunday open mic/jam at H-D dealer in 'feels like' 100+ degree temps. Taking a box fan with me. And wearing my Vespa t-shirt.
