Do you ever have to update songs to keep them current? Vaping in the Gender Neutral Restroom Facilities comes to mind.
Rhyming/phrasing is gonna be a challenge.
Politically correct is not a consideration. A song is what it is, either do it or not.
Some female performers will change girl to boy in a lyric. That isn't a big deal but I think that it changes the song in a negative way. If you don't like it as written, I say, write your own song.
Having said that, writers submit songs to record companies that are sometimes later changed and rearranged once assigned to a producer. This is more about extending the writing process and is often done. This should be in consultation with the song's owner.
Parodies are legal. People like Weird Al ask for permission and have been turned down.

One of the songs I do in our group is "6 Days on the Road". There's a line in there: "I just passed a 'Jimmy'[that's a GMC]and a White"-2 prominent big truck* makers at the time. I changed it to "a Mack and a White". GMC's been outta the big truck market for 20+ years.

That fits well. Not all changes do as you said earlier.
Comedy can work as well. People mishear words in songs. John Fogerty sings "There's a bathroom on the right" as a joke, see 1:55. The audiences love it. Some think those ARE the words.
We announce that song as "giving directions to the restroom".
I don't know if Jimi Hendrix ever sang "excuse me while I kiss this guy", instead of "the sky". We used to put that line in, it was kind of expected.
