OK, just on the off chance....

Our rescue building uses two 4 channel security camera systems. (because why rely on a single 8 chan, right?) One of them died today (moment of silence). It was a 10 year old First Alert 4 chan BCS wired CMOS system, 1080p with a 1TB HD. Model # is H 264. As far as I can tell, it's the DVR unit that died. I have a power light on the transformer, but none on the DVR. Monitor and cams and cables all seem to be OK.

So...anyone know of a decent source for these units at a low cost? Amazon and eBay are all over the place on prices and how do you even know what's decent?

I'd rather not spend donated money on a whole new system, and it'd be easier to leave the cameras and cable runs in place if I can find a compatible unit. Any help out there?

Not sure about your model number, H.264 is a codec standard for video transmission. You might want to check on that although they might have called it H 264.

If you are interested in a hail mary approach, send an email to FirstAlert and explain your situation and ask if the unit can be repaired. Ask if a replacement or rerurb without the cameras is available. Also ask if they can offer an affordable price on a product for your registered charity.

I see lower end security systems sold at some electronic surplus stores. Would be worth checking out locally.

Sometimes B&H offers used equipment. Will this meet your needs? I’m not sure if it feeds into a separate video recorder or if one is built in.

They have some affordable products on their site. The one above says up to 3MP camera resolution, your 1080p cameras may work.

Also with nice weather my thoughts turn to hot dogs. They sell these ones that clain no nitrites added. A healthy choice? Not really. It turns out that they preserve with dried celery. This is known to be high in nitrates which acts the same.

So if you want to avoid nitrite for health reasons, these “no preservatives added” products are just as unhealthy. Maybe I should just stick with shrimps.
