Word has it that watching weather channels is a leading cause of premature aging. Case workers are trained to handle severe onset patients who run multiple weather channels on different devices throughout the house.

^ /me not guilty

Approaching hurricanes have a talent for suspense worthy of Hitchcock and can also cause premature aging, in addition to the behavior you describe. "The person with a clock always knows what time it is, while the person with two clocks can never be sure." It's the same with multiple weather channels. Pick one and go with it. Or, like the serial monogamists of Hollywood, at least pick just one at a time!

Yay, new free hospital grade mask today from visiting the phlebotomist. The one I'm using has a bit of the chewing gum and bailing wire thing going on. Keeping it functional with two pieces of surgical tape on the underside where the folds opened from a need to wipe my nose without taking the thing off.

I see many of our city regulars either don't know or don't care how to use their mask properly. And that's even more evident with the minimum wage clerks who work in the 100,000 yen stores. What I also see today is the parking ticket writing guy who walks the beat isn't wearing a mask at all. And that's a take.

If I had a spy camera (smartphone) I would have made a photo of the meter maid, then I'd tell him to put his mask on and that I was going to post his pic all over the interwebz................

The Dancing Bass Player:

You know, that would be awesome if the lead singer would step forward so all that was going on behind him. As it is here, it looks a little amateur hour but only for that. But I get crap for pointing out the fine line between professionalism and mugging for ego gratification so just forget I ever said anything :)

And, if in the US, he/she would probably tell you "I'm outside, I don't plan on coming within 6' of anybody and thank you for wearing a mask to protect me". Don't forget to get a picture of the salute he/she gives you at the same time.

The meter guy wears a perpetual frown and stalks for violations with no reported empathy for drivers. Once he begins writing a ticket, it's over, even if the driver is running to correct the situation. I saw him once in the supermarket and the frown/scowl looks like it was burned into his organic EPROM.

Once I took a parking space and chucked my coins in the meter, but did not notice the meter was broken. Returned to find a ticket. Confronted him face to face because I know he was aware the meter was faulty. Went in person to the agency office and made my point. Someone walked with me to confirm the meter was broken, and they voided my ticket.

Today as I took coffee, I watched a gentleman around my age working to figure out how to use the electronic meter that replaced the old coin-op dial meters. They're so difficult to use, the agency has a meter in their office to instruct people who complain. Sometimes the fee is voided, sometimes not. The meters are stupidly engineered (and thus, guaranteed revenue).

The city doesn't see all that revenue. The parking authority is an outside agency on a fat contract. They're embedded here now.

I retired from that "industry" and, although I dedicated my working life (some 39 years) to developing user-friendly and accountable products, I have to agree that there were some who made more money (through entrapment citations, theft and graft) by not applying them correctly.

I needed an adapter for my iPad so payed a visit to the Apple store. It was an experience. I placed an order online and wanted to pick it up rather than have it delivered. You have to make an appointment within a half hour window. Got to the store, there was a couple of hundred people in front of the store. There were multiple lines. I got in a long line for people who are picking up purchases. Someone comes along and checks you in. They then move you to another line. Someone comes along and checks you into that line, they also want to see your ID. Someone brings your item, washes it off with a dininfectant wipe, then puts it in a bag for you. All this happens on the sidewalk outside the store. Other people wanting to go into the store get their temperature taken, have to answer covid questions, then are given a mask and disinfecting goop.

I find myself often looking from the outside in. It turns out even the rich have to stand in line. There was a long line of girls outside Tiffany and Co. Most looked like they were in their early to mid 20’s. The Rolex store had lots of nice watches in the window. I thought, I haven’t worn a watch in years. No lines there but out on the street there was a line of fancy vehicles. All toys for rich people to show off to their friends.

I wouldn’t trade a good musical moment for any of that.
