So this band I am with.. drummer says that he wants to add some more new country to the song list (it has a bunch on it now!) Even though they claim that they want to be a country music and blues music band.. they keep rejecting the blues tunes ( they are really not that familiar with blues, I can really tell!)
So I have been trying to find some "new" country music.. but I keep running into this song


So I am at a loss.. there was this one song, I thought it was a pop song that the guitar player wanted to do.. come to find out.. it was in the top ten on the country charts.. I was like View attachment 877443
That ain't country.. far from it.. I don't listen to country.. umm. I don't listen to much radio either.. I am tired of the songs the local station plays over and over and over.. did I say they play that stuff over and over and over? I have enjoyed playing some "country", but I am not much for bubblegum pop music that it has turned into I have discovered.. maybe I am living a self induced sheltered life, for it appears I am severely out of touch with the current music scene.. to me, it appears that there isn't one really.. kind makes me grumpy!

Yep, me too… Grumpy as hell at what gets called Country Music… it's been Disneyfied or something: absolute garbage. You're in a tough spot to play happily… grump on and maybe look for a new band?

The grump has gotten a hold of me again. Had an outside gig Fri. night. Three songs in and it started raining. Grabbed the plastic and covered everything up. Worked good for a while until the 50 MPH winds kicked in and we had to stand there holding the plastic over our amps while getting soaked. Could have been worse I guess and they paid us for the whole gig so not a complete loss. Then today , I'm out cutting the grass and my riding lawnmower took a dump on me. Spark plug thread is now stripped and I may have damaged the piston. Hope I can just heli-coil it and get it running again but if not , the thing is well over 20 years old so i can't complain too much. Pushing that old hand mower to finish the job was interesting but I'm getting too darn old for that crap.
Seahag (my lovely wife) just bought a truck. '96 dodge. Got a great deal on it but the tranny needs some work. Hoping that it's just a couple of modules that I can do myself. Even if it needs a complete rebuild , at the price she got it for , it was still a bargain. Looks like I'm gonna be busy for the next few weekends fixin' stuff. To add to the confusion (although it's not a bad thing) I have gigs booked for the next four weekends.
Yeah , I know , first world problems and I shouldn't gripe but I was hoping not to have to be quite this busy for the next few weeks. Carry on.

Oh, I empathize. I spent several days this past week fighting my Dodge 2000 pick up.
I had a 95 with a 318 until a few years back that was indestructible motor and trans but wrecked a few times and the whole body was rusting. It still cranked up on the 1st or 2nd try until I sold it for scrap. 318's great engines.

My Jeep GK leaking somewhere, newer radiator, so I'm thinking the same thing. Someone else will have to suffer through it.

No computer access so far. Right now , I'm just going by symptoms and what a couple of fairly knowledgeable trans guys have told me. The trans shops around here all have a reputation for just doing a complete rebuild rather than just a repair so I really don't trust any of them. Gonna try a repair myself (under a hundred bucks)before I go the rebuild route. I'm not physically able to do a swap out anymore and don't have access to any decent equipment like a lift or trans jacks. I can do the governor switch and sensor just by pulling the pan. If it gets much more complicated than that , I'm at the mercy of the trans shops.

MOPARs spit out the OBD codes if you do key on-off-on (not running of course). Older ones flash it out on the check engine light, mine does it on the digital odometer. Does not include the CAN codes or ABS on mine. Autozone or Advance Auto reads those for me.

I've got a 2003 Toyota Corolla LE. It's got 90,000 on it and all it's ever asked for is new oil and windshield wiper fluid. Oh wait. I have changed the tires and the battery once. And it was questionable that I needed to change the battery. In our family, when cars start requiring excessive maintenance we sell and buy up. I'm the least mechanically inclined you will ever meet.

With harsh winters you can't take a chance. Especially with a battery or anything the makes it hard to start.

Speaking of repairs, good new, no surgery for me for a while. Looks like this old goat gets to climb another mountain.

It's somewhere between what I expected and what I had hoped for. I'm going back for steroid injections in a couple of weeks. Last time that was good for years. One disk in my neck is causing a severely pinched and flattened nerve, the rest that are not in perfect health are not causing any trouble. One in my lumbar is causing a bit of trouble.

So I'm getting packed and ready for our trip to the good ol' USA to stay with my friend and bandmate of 45 years. I recently came across some cassette tapes of some gigs we did together 40 years ago. As a "house warming" gift I was able to copy the tapes to digital format. Listening to my bass playing I could hear that really cool tone I had during that era. I was using a fretless Gibson Ripper with a '70's SVT and an Ampeg V4B folded horn bottom. Yeah, there was a cutoff on the high end with that cab, but the low end punch and grunt was to die for. And, the HF cutoff worked well in the ensemble as it left sonic room for the guitar and keyboards.
Here's the cool part that I had forgotten about; when I would really dig in on the strings I would get an envelope follower effect mixed in the straight tone. But I had no pedals, just straight to the SVT. Got a lot of compliments on my bass sound back then, not so much on my playing. LOL
