Do you do any Ramones? That'll speed things up :D

I just listened again through the stereo, sounds great! I can hear you plucking the strings now :D Built in all-in-one PC speakers are more like cheap headphones sitting on the desk and cranked up :D

I'm breaking in some new arrivals, aluminum coned woofs, with:

One of my favorite songs...

Too bad the bolt holes are off on the 10" woofs from my Marantz stereo cabs, just a hair, but the screws won't go in without bending stuff or new holes. I had hoped to A/B them against the OEMs. I held them in place, but I rarely listen to music holding two 10's in on the right channel. Sounded good. Breaing in 1 10" and one 5" now, open air, so I can get the T/S specs measured.

Nope.. no Romones.. Just some of the classic rock that most other bands don't play.. some country that I am not familiar with and a few blues tunes that only me an the other geetar player are familiar with.. the others in the band don't know much blues.. well except that they know a 12 bar tune.. bet you can figure out which one that is!

Happy Birthday Sir!

Thanks for the tip, but I think I am beyond anything other than conventional medicine at this point. I at least have herniated disks, maybe ruptured, but was afraid to hear more. The spinal nerves are being strangled by the disks which are attempting to exit my spine. This aspect of my spinal failure has been going on at least two years. Shooting pain down my legs was the first symptom, then weak legs and tingling fingers. Now I'm mowing the lawn with my left hand and can't move a mouse for more than about 30 seconds. Typing not as bad. I can't really do my job anymore. I can still go in though, or use sick days :D First herniated disk was found ten years ago. o_O:thumbsdown::rage::mad::confused::dead:
You may not want to give up on therapeutics. I was where I could barely walk and had been to doctors all over the country with no help. Chinese Medical Therapeutics literally saved my life. Specifically Medical Qigong.

In preparation for "getting the band back together" I just downloaded three albums that we emulated and had music we covered: Frank Zappa and the Mothers - Weasels Ripped my Flesh; Mahavishnu Orchestra- Inner Mounting Flame; Edgar Winter's White Trash- Roadwork. At age 21 we really tried hard to do this stuff. Plus this was '71 to '72 with a lot of smoke and mirrors (wink, wink). Our band was multi-racial which at the time was not very popular in some places we played. The general audience opinion then was if you were black you played soul music, white played rock etc. We played whatever we felt like playing and REAL LOUD. We learned to be good with our hands in many ways. Still have the scars to prove it.

Well I certainly hope you don't run into racial troubles this day and age! Do you still listen to the music of your more formative years? I do. And a whole lot more! I pretty much like most music from 50s to 90s. It drops off in the 90s from ignorance more than dislike. Bad radio here, so I mostly listen to what I buy. How to move 2000 LPs to the Phils?

I just got through listening to the Mahavishnu album all the way through. We were in awe of them back then and I still am. Listening to them now I can hear how that one album influenced my playing, perception and approach to my relationship with music. But for me these days I seem to go through phases for learning and tightening up my playing. For instance i just went through a "Meters" phase. These guys breakdown funk to the sub atomic level. To understand what they are doing and put it deep inside my groin (for lack of a better word) was the pretty big challenge. Yeah, I can get funky, but can I really put the stank on every note I play? Simple is the hardest.
I might revisit Mahavishnu and see where they fit with me now.
As for the racial thing, Glenn (drummer) and I were really tight as best friends then and there seemed to be some kind of resentment or subtle hatred sent our way from all races in different situations. Like we weren't allowed to just be normal buddies. This was in the northeast USA. It's definitely changed, but how much?

I'd like to add a testimonial for the inversion table. Two years ago, I could barely walk. One ruptured disc, two herniated discs and spinal stenosis. Three weeks before surgery, I bought an inversion table to help with the sciatic nerve pain. After three weeks of use, almost all of the pain went away. Today, I'm 100% better and I was able to avoid back surgery. I feel so blessed that I discovered this therapy before an expensive and risky surgery!! 10 minutes twice a day!!

Thank you for the insight!

Hello fella GOFs! I have an actual amp question today :D as much as I hate to steer a thread towards on topic, I wanna hear from you fella's.

My experience with tubes, besides getting my nuts shocked off in HS electronics (no worries, they grew back), is limited to some studies too long ago to remember and doing a swaps. So, read a lot of threads here and elsewhere about swapping in an alternate for 12AX7 for another type, like a 12AU7 or something. I am talking about a tube in a tube preamp pedal or a hybrid amp with a single tube in the preamp. It seems they desire a higher gain in some cases to get more tube breakup. That never made sense to me. I think you should use a lower gain tube, so it saturates with a smaller input signal to get a nice smooth tube distortion, then go on to amplify that signal shape with the SS amp, not driving the SS into clipping. IDK how the tube works in a single tube pre/hybrid integrated amp. Are my thoughts on this correct, or am I missing something?

I already forgive myself for using the wrong nomenclature, because it's out of ignorance and dead brain cells. I can fix my ignorance on tubes, but I can't fix it on everything! Even if a could, I wouldn't, for there would be no more bliss:D

A lower gain tube means it doen't amplify the signal as much. Most often replacing voltage gain for higher current. It would require a higher input signal to saturate a lower gain tube. If you wanted to lower the distortion a lower gain tube like a 12AY7, AT7, AU7 would reduce the saturation in the circuit. I used a 12AU7 in one channel of a V4 -B as an active bass channel. One tube wonder hybrids are often just a marketing ploy.

So I had it backwards then...
