For me, it’s not really a desirable feature unless you’re a collector. I knew people that would unscrew the snaps. I didn’t like the pads on Gretsch instruments. Being vinyl, they tended to crack and tear.

The keyboard player in Kansas didn’t wear much of anything. This is what happens when you have to work and your baggage gets lost.

The idea wasn’t to look like Clint, although some mimic his style. Hat and all.
The wild west often depicted ladies dressed up, a photo was a big deal.

That Kansas video was interesting as Dave Hope has just become a member here. I noticed that he was not featured in the video. There again what else is news!! 
The first time I saw them after Kerry Livgren left the band, he was performing with a bare torso. He was also standing on his head on the keyboard. I don't think it was a matter of lost luggage, but showing off...
you asking me there Paul? if so, had heart function checked a few weeks ago. still at 25% now maxed out on meds. next echo is September 2nd. this 90-100 degree heat.is kicking my butt and making it very hard to breathe. I traded a Tele bass for a late 60's Fender fretless P in 1977 and it had a plastic cover on the back, it went right around the side of it and was held on by the two neck strap screws, I lost it and don't remember what they called them but I've seen them on other basses here and there too. I've also seen them for sale occasionally on ebay.

I've seen photos of those for Strats, too. Clear plastic that surrounded the perimeter and hugged the back of the body.
