If she gives them permission to talk to you they should tell you. If she hasn't, say something like "I know you can't tell me she is there but if she is could you please tell her her sister wants to know what's going on. We used to hear that and say "OK thank you" and then go ask. Patient confidentiality is only in effect if she hasn't given them permission to talk to anyone and they are supposed to ask her for a list of people they can talk to when they're first admitted.

Hospitals can be difficult to deal with. My mom was in her 90’s and very confused at the best of times. She was unable to make decisions and understand anything. They locked the legal caregiver in the family out completely for two days before anyone got any information and access. This was well before covid restrictions.

Managed health care, now there's one for you And Tuesday concluded three days of phone tag with my medical insurance carrier. Someone rang me Friday and I couldn't take the call as I was at work. Message only told me to call back. When we finally connected, I learned the call is a helpful reminder to ask my doctor to refer me for a mammogram and pap smear.
