I gather the belt buckle condom on a Gretsch isn't made to be removed.

Pity about the vinyl. Leather requires knowledgeable care. Assuming it's proper leather, and not "genuine leather".

The aspect of me who knows her stuffs about leather is an equisteranne raised in the holy trinity of saddle soap, neatsfoot oil, and Lexol. Which is why none has seen me in Western attire. Hats are required on the show circuit. It's tradition. It's also tradition only mens can wear tan top hunting boots. Women wear patent leather top boots for the hunt. Never been on a hunt. Too many nobs. Think your school or work dress requirements are strict? You should see the horseshow circuit. All very amusing considering what we step around, and in. Just like life. Only with a horse. Horses have excellent memory. Horses know how to hold a grudge.

My concession to Western is a suede strap with fringe. Bien dans sa peau.

The Gretsch cover is pebble grain vinyl. It covers sins committed against the body. The cover and a pad snaps on. And yes, George Harrison’s Gretsch had one. Not all of their guitars do. My 6120 doesn’t.

The back hole is covered with plastic as if that makes it better. It mounts on top like a truss rod cover does. The metal snaps can be removed with a screwdriver, leaving holes on the back.

The keyboard player in Kansas didn’t wear much of anything. This is what happens when you have to work and your baggage gets lost.

I started watching the video and saw a bunch of half naked guys and thought is this the Red Hot Chili Peppers? Then they began to play and I said "Nope...these guys are way more talented musicians than the RHCP's".

I saw Kansas open up for ZZ Top years ago. Great show. My buddy mentions to me while Kansas was performing that the guitarist has an eye patch and wondered what happened. I said he stood too close to the violin player one too many times. My buddy said "Really?". :woot:

Rich lost his eye as the result of an altercation in a bar...

I had a great uncle who was quite well to do. He was invited on a hunt. At the end of the hunt the huntmaster(?) told him "We appreciate your enthusiasm, but the correct phrase is 'tally ho, the fox', not 'there goes the sonovab****".

While I have seen a fox from my mount, and while we did give chase, the net effect was laughing our heads off at a gallop. Which may be the real point, but the nobs have to write rules and dictate dress codes and all. The probability I will ever be invited to a hunt being the square root of minus 1, I also, courteously decline that sort of personal association in general.

In fact was just looking at Passier saddles Sunday. Passier is the holy grail of tack. Thing is, once someone is riding at Olympic levels, the cost of insurance on that horse means it's usually owned by several people. The veterinary insurance is calculated on the estimated worth of a horse.

Folks take their horsemanship seriously!

What I find is the Lexol non-darkening neatsfoot conditioner is an excellent product. Neatsfoot oil itself will rot stitching (.... eventually) and that's not a great concern for most with bass (guitar) straps. The Lexol stuff looks to address the acidity of neatsfoot, and it really doesn't darken the leather! Lookee

In jan 1968 I saw some one trying a Precision at Hessy's store in Liverpool. I also saw hanging on the wall a Gibson EB0F that was stolen from me.i can't remember how that interaction panned out but The guy with the Precision was a friend of mine. Eventually I bought the bass from him. It had a terrible belt rash on the back. I strung the thing with Rotosounds and I was in heaven. Later on June 6 of that year I met the girl who was to become my wife at a gig. :D I still own that bass and it was the only bass I owned for nineteen years. I have seven now. :)

I never understood why players would wear a buckle in a position to damage the back of an instrument. I just twisted mine to the side out of the way.

I agree. I keep my shirt untucked to cover my belt and protect my bass.

We all have to agree that Flea probably does not have belt rash on his bass....now whether Flea has a rash on his stomach from his bass, well, that is a separate issue....

Everyone knows that you are supposed to rotate your buckle to the side when playing. Especially in the 60’s when mod wide belts were in.

We wear untucked aloha shirts or(rarely)untucked polos. My 53 y/o THUNDERBIRD NR has no buckle rash at all. Nor do any of my other basses.
