Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Sorry, grumps. I just realized I accidentally grumped in another thread not too long ago, and now I need to grump that tune again. Reprise, if you will. "Black Dog" hitting closer to home.

Last week my sister-in-law was in the hospital, again, with "stomach problems", again. But, of course, even her closest family, neither sisters nor sons, were not allowed in to see her. It had been 2 weeks and she usually walks out, AMA, after 1 week. So another sister-in-law calls the hospital and keeps escalating until she finally gets an ICU nurse to admit that she's there, but HIPAA doesn't allow any other info. "Would you tell her that her sister wants to talk to her, PLEASE! We've been getting stonewalled for too long.", she said. 4 hours later the nurse called her back and told her she's now on the approved next-of-kin list and that she's dying! WELL! Many, many way too many, more phone calls by sister-in-law and son to the many doctors and nurses on the case later, everyone finally agrees on hospice care! Then the Marx Bros., and/or Murphy's Law kicks in such that the hospice drugs and the ambulance is headed to the son's house, instead of her own home where the whole family is anxiously awaiting!:facepalm::rollno: Drugs return to pharmacy and ambulance returns to hospital for redirection while precious hours are wasted.

Her older son is a wreck, her younger son is a rock (but grinding his teeth to nubs). The whole family has been in such harmonious agreement with the younger son's wishes it's scary. Is this really my wife's family? They've never agreed on anything! Even her bbdff* are in total agreement and loving on the whole family, as never seen in past history!

TL;DR - Sister-in-law has been home on hospice since Monday evening. This morning the hospice nurse says she has "minutes to hours". Just now, as I'm typing this, my wife got the call that she has passed. Now the really tough part begins, with no will, no power of attorney, no insurance, no access to the small bank account. No funds for a funeral.

*best beer drinking friends forever - her partisan posse; her gal pals who took her side no matter what; her unlicensed psychiatric therapists who also told her she was wrong when they thought she was wrong (though they still took her side against others!)
.
Yikes! Good luck to all involved AFA wading through the red tape. Had to deal with similar stuff with my in-laws. Luckily, before all the super privacy crap took hold. Still took way too long to resolve. Thoughts and prayers your way.

...anyone else know this record?

Sorry for the loss and the circumstances...

Not to mention craftsmanship and quality wood.
That's exactly why our new furniture is Amish made, they still believe in doing things right.

The antique stores near me have changed. In the past, there were one after another on one particular street, literally dozens of shops in antique alley. They were full of good items at affordable prices. Most have closed
The same is happening around here, too, sadly.

...there are high end items available but the prices start at tens of thousands.
Those are primarily for the serious collector. We, on the other hand, actually use our furniture. :smug:

Which is why I say I shudder at the thought of furnishing an entire house with period pieces from scratch. I DON’T KNOW IF i have that many years left.
Oh, come on now, it's only a bunch of $$$$$$$$$ scratch we're talking about here. Don't leave it for the kids! ;)

Old victorians ... Finding the right pieces in the right size to match big rooms would be difficult.
That's actually pretty easy to do. Real Victorian homes were quite eclectic in their furnishings and related trappings of excess.
There are a few places that sell newly built reproduction products and that seems to be a trend. Prices are high. A pine armoire will still set you back many thousands. They are built then distressed. The intended funkiness can be over the top.
Road-Worn Furniture™, an exclusive line from the Fender Custom Shop.

Lucky for me that I have been able to find relative bargains during my antiques accumulation excursions, and they are in great condition, too, especially, given most of it being well over 100 years old; none of this relic stuff for us!

Where'd you find those interior photos of La Contessa's summer cottage?

Thank you, Goner & Souly. I appreciate you.

The new reality of stupidity.

A silly goose decided to make a nest in a median between an A&W and a Taco Bell. I suppose that it couldn’t decide which garbage it prefers. Being protected, the eggs can’t be moved, so this is the solution. Her mate has taken a space within eyesight in the Walmart parting lot.

The sign should read Goose and not Geese.
