From the est training way back in the long-ago mists, they kind of summed up everything you need to know about sex as, "When you're hot, you're hot...and when you're not, you're not."

Pills? We ain't got no pills. We don't need no pills. I don't have to show you any stinkin' pills! :D

I was thinking The Pill, but okay, will ride with this.

Worrisome

You have to have enough street smarts to spot a scam such as untoward covid testing.

An incident happened nearby. A long time serial rapist was released on parole before his 21 year sentence was complete. He brutally raped people between 14 and 25 over four years. His release was against the advice of the court psychologist and despite his classification as a long-term offender, meaning that it was deemed that he will reoffend.

Living in a halfway house, he approached a 16 year old girl in broad daylight claiming he was a cop. She was handcuffed and thrown into his car. She screamed, fought, and managed to open the door and escape with her cloths torn. People came to her aid and got his license number before he took off. He is now under arrest.

It’s too bad that the judges don’t have the means to deal with a deviant like this. I think that the death penalty is a good deterrent. At the very least, chemical castration and permanent incarceration. The “enlightened” leaders here don’t allow either remediation.

I certainly call down a scammer when I see one.

And reminded of a wee tale ....

It is my first day of econ at journalism school. We have free choice as grad students. We can work the bureau in DC or take econ in downtown Chicago. Seemed to me econ was the lesser of two evils ... I board the El for the Loop in Rogers Park.

"Chicago is Oz for Midwesterners," Horace Heidt, Jr. told me, and well dang if he isn't spot on right.

A stop or two and in comes the Scam Team, working the car with the three shell game. By reflex I see who is working with him, the lookouts, the plant ... when I see another passenger watching me watching and accessing the scam. We hold eye contact, and break off.

Reach our classroom (in an office building on Lake Shore Drive) and I see that fellow on the El who saw me watching is another journalism student.

It's the mid 80's and I'm driving an 18 wheeler. I'd stopped in a rest area to catch a few Z's. I'm rudely awakened by some clown pounding on my door. "Hey, ya gotta come see this". I put on my boots, and walk toward the back of the trailer. About 1/2 way, there's a guy dealing 3 card monte. I take a quick look and say"Riiiight" and head back to my already running truck. I made every effort to run them over as I pulled outta the parking space, observing them scramble to get outta the way of those rear tandems. Don't wake up and piss off a tired trucker.

Wow, three card monte. Scammers piss me off. "Nice game, where did you learn that, prison?" is how I call down scammers in Oakland one December night long ago. Scammers piss me off.

Phone scammers used to drive me nuts(er), but now I don't answer calls that I don't recognize the number. However, on my landline, used mainly for the alarm system, I'll occasionally answer and once I get a live person on the line, I'll say "just a sec, I gotta get a pencil to write this down". At which point I go to the fridge for a (diet) Mountain Dew.[tick-tick-tick ad nauseum]

Lucky that they didn’t steal your rig when you got out with the motor running.

I must look like a mark. Other than early in the morning, there isn’t a time when I go out when I’m not hit up in some way for either money or a scam. Unless someone starts with “can you tell me how to get to...”, they get ignored. This is often followed with them hurling curses.

There are a lot of professional scammers out there. A older women recently intentionally bumped into me downtown and dropped a package. She wanted money to pay for her now broken stemware. Living in the area, I’ve seen her working the street before.

I'm polite to political pollsters on the phone, as long as it isn't an egregious push poll. I've done that stuff, and it has use. Phone sales, I just say no thanks. I don't believe I've ever actually had a call from a scammer.

It was bad enough dealing with getting your windshield cleaned at a red light. Then there's this guy pan-handling for money at a stop light with his late model BMW parked nearby...

I observe most Americans who work the street are freelance.

It is about a 10 minute walk from my residenza to work in Milan. I cross one five way intersection that is heavily worked by eastern Europeans. One day I see the regulars have been replaced overnight. One of them who works the busiest bit looks like he's been kneecapped.

The penny drops. They have managers.

This is not what I see each day at NY Penn Station, or at PATH WTC, and very definitely not what I see on Hollywood Boulevard.

Carey picked up a call and someone from overseas informed her that her laptop Windows had expired and needed to be renewed for $199. Those of you who know me know I'm a PC Tech for a living. She passed the phone to me and I toyed with him for 20 minutes teasing to buy the "upgrade" and asking him technical questions until he finally hung up. That was fun!

Wondering where you've been, Will, and looks like you report in on a Friday with all fingers and all toes accounted for!
