Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

He didn't scare the hell out of me. He was a showman. He did what he had to do for the show. He whipped his band into shape and, to some, became the grandfather of soul.

To me, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave and others were more qualified but, that is JMHO.
But James was different from those guys. They could appeal to a conservative audience. James was from outer space. And in the little one-hick town I grew up in we didn't know which way to jump :p we couldn't appreciate him till we had enough distance to look back.

My cheapo Ibanez imitation MM went to the guitar doctor for a fret dress and truss rod nut repair. The guys said it might be there for more than a month. I'm tempted to have him send the bass back and get the stripped truss rod nut removal tool and do the adjustment myself. I'm just not familiar how to sand down the sharp edges on the frets. I've never done a fret job before.

By the way for a cheapo bass this MM clone sounds pretty nice. Very punchy and has that MM midrange growl.

Buying the tools for both those jobs can get expensive.

For the fret ends, they describe how to do it below. I use the fret end dressing file as well as the fret bevelling tool. You can do it with just the file but it's a long job. The fretboard needs to be protected.

A fret dress, re-crowning best requires specialized tools. They sell different tools for doing this. You'll at least need a crowning file and sanding/polishing pads. Then you should check the relative fret heights to eliminate buzzing. There are tools for that.

Peter Gabriel did very well for himself as a businessman. He knows how to sell england by the £.

He was a major shareholder in Solid State Logic located in Oxfordshire, England. They are recording console manufacturer. When SSL was sold, he took shares and remains active in the new, much larger company.

He also build Real World Studios in Bath, a major recording facility and label.

Then there is his music empire, touring, WOMAD festival organizer...

I can't find anything to complain about this morning. It's making me very grumpy.
Then you must have turned into bright light and disappeared. I was fine when I woke up today, too. But then I took too big a first sip of coffee and scorched myself a bit. I said the requisite bad word and went on my way, grumpy and contented.

I still remember Peter as a shy young lad when I first met him in the fall of 1973 (yet, he was older than me!).

My day started well indeed. My boss asked me if I had tried Remote Support from home and I said no. He said 'try it out soon.' So I'm home today doing application installs via remote application. It's working well! Sitting in my slippers with Carey while she watches The View (ugh) and I'm doing my work remotely! To make it even better, Carey got me a nice marbled bone-in ribeye for tonight (payday ribeye Friday) and she's having clam strips and jo-jo's. I'm sorry but I haven't found something to be grumpy about yet GOF's!

I was on an elevator, all alone. It stopped and someone got on. From what I gathered of their phone conversation, they were a social worker visiting covid patients. Captive in a small box with someone who visits infected people. Their nitrile gloves looked filthy. Made me wonder how closely they are following SOP.

Just what i needed.
Now that makes me grumpy. Ugh! I wonder if they really screen these people for a most important job.

Good morning all GOF's. Please join in Friday's check-in for reports on all toes fingers, appendages accounted for. Long weekend here on Labor Day. I have Monday off so we're making baby back ribs potato salad and baked beans. Also a healthy salad and mixed fruit bowl for dessert. I'm ordering a new mixer this weekend as my trusty old Behringer died. I bought a small Yamaha but it was only 2 bus, and i need 2 + 2. Also cleaning up the spare bedroom to create a food pantry/studio. Wife Carey doesn't want me out in the cold shed this winter due to the stuff floating around in the air. Looking forward to working with her on these fun projects.

So what say ye, GOF's? What is on your schedule this long Labor Day weekend? Sadly I know some of you will miss your traditional sports....

I thought Labor Day was next weekend...now I have to recount other things besides fingers and toes .
