Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I have a lot to be grumpy about but I got some good news to cancel it. On Wednesday I, my wife, and our grandson evacuated from our home to avoid hurricane Laura. Three and a half hour drive to stay at a less than stellar motel outside the storm's projected path. The storm turned more than was anticipated and we got caught in it. It had dropped to tropical storm level so it wasn't too bad. Then the power went out. No lights, air conditioning, and other creature comforts that we are accustomed to. Today, we drove two hours to stay in a small house in the woods that was graciously offered to us to use for the next few weeks because that is about how long it will take to get the power restored at our home. Today's drive got off to a bad start by having to get a flat tire repaired because a roofing rack was stuck in it. Tomorrow, I get to make an eight hour round trip to my home pick up a couple of things we really need that we didn't think we needed. The offsetting good news is that we have a house to return to that has minimal damage. A few shingles were blown off and a little bit siding will need to be reattached.

The lady with a 10 am appointment with me showed up ten minutes early. She texted me and I replied I was five minutes distant. She rang me seven minutes later to ask if I'd forgotten our appointment. When we met her smrtphn showed a record of her text and no reply from me. My smrtphn showed a record of both her text and my two replies. :meh:

At the moment our follow-up text exchanges appear to be in near-real time.

One reason why I don't carry a cell phone. People snap their fingers and expect you to jump. I tell them to get stuffed.

That's riding it out the GOF way

How do we know that? He could be carving it, himself.................

Modern headstone carving techniques are really cool. They use computer controlled rotary cutters as well as sandblasting over rubber templates. Not to mention text autocorrection (well maybe that isn't the best idea). Of course, there is a demand for old school hand carved stones.

Very happy things worked out for you. These are challenging times. Stay strong and we will survive.

By happenstance the wife booked a week in San Antonio quite some time ago, so we were covered.

Houston dodged the bullet but the Texas / Louisiana border got hammered.

Glad you and yours are okay, the rest is only stuff.

Money or skill. For those lacking skill, comparing investing in a program/equipment to a pro with either one, to me would be the answer.
Wouldn't it take a skillful luthier to design and fine tune the CNC?
I remember reading a while back people complaining about Asian built instruments. A former store owner who worked with distributors brought up an excellent point. The Asian manufacturers can tailor their QA and inspection and tolerances as low or high as you want. So if the QA is poor, blame the brand. They set the standards.
