Wouldn't it take a skillful luthier to design and fine tune the CNC?
I remember reading a while back people complaining about Asian built instruments. A former store owner who worked with distributors brought up an excellent point. The Asian manufacturers can tailor their QA and inspection and tolerances as low or high as you want. So if the QA is poor, blame the brand. They set the standards.

Good QA would mean they meet the standards set 99.9999% of the time, regardless of whether those standards are very high or abysmally low.

Arguably when certain brands rely on luthiers to set up their instruments, that is to fix manufacturing cock-ups, that's a sign of BAD QA, not good.

I can use all the vision help and hand stabilization I can get. It isn't cheating. Neither is using a state-of-the-art modern amp or bass design. Although I still like my old passive basses and tube amps.

Good morning all GOF's. Please join in Friday's check-in for reports on all toes fingers, appendages accounted for. Long weekend here on Labor Day. I have Monday off so we're making baby back ribs potato salad and baked beans. Also a healthy salad and mixed fruit bowl for dessert. I'm ordering a new mixer this weekend as my trusty old Behringer died. I bought a small Yamaha but it was only 2 bus, and i need 2 + 2. Also cleaning up the spare bedroom to create a food pantry/studio. Wife Carey doesn't want me out in the cold shed this winter due to the stuff floating around in the air. Looking forward to working with her on these fun projects.

So what say ye, GOF's? What is on your schedule this long Labor Day weekend? Sadly I know some of you will miss your traditional sports....

Your dinner sounds great. I have all my parts, and like the old Wendy's commercial said, parts is parts. Looks like the weekend is going to be a bang-up whizbang shebang of reading, bass playing, studying, and TV watching. Just like last weekend. And the weekend before. And the one before that. Been there. Hang tough. Perseverance and one foot in front of the other. Dogged cheerfulness. Looking at the trees and the birds. Those are some of the things that got me through. Infusion RNs and cardiac floor RNs are among the very best people you'll ever meet. Bring them chocolate.

I'm re-watching Inspector Morse (or Morose - take your pick), having dropped a bloody great lump of granite on my big toe this morning.

So grumpy old fart laid up on the couch with a toe rapidly turning into a plum watching a grumpy old fart on TV...

Loved that show. "Lewisss!" I'll have to go see where I can watch it again. That and Inspector Tennison in "Prime Suspect."

I finally got home from the infusion center. They had to stop the infusion for a while since I got a severe case of the chills. I was so cold that my entire body was shaking. I'm feeling much better now.

GOFs often feel cold when it is 24 (75) degrees. Those same GOFs often feel hot when it's 24 (75) degrees.

Good that they got the side effect under control. Quite an assault on your body.

Also good that it wasn't fever cooking you. Then you may get an ice water bath till you get the chills. I had that once related to food poisoning.

Modern headstone carving techniques are really cool. They use computer controlled rotary cutters as well as sandblasting over rubber templates. Not to mention text autocorrection (well maybe that isn't the best idea). Of course, there is a demand for old school hand carved stones.

Back in mid 1800s England we had John Ruskin and William Morris to thank for bringing back good old hand created things. Then, in the very early 1900s in America dear old Gus (Stickley) came along and pontificated all about Ruskin's and Morris's ideals, while at the same time he began to use machines to take the drudgery out of basic mechanical operations in his furniture making business. Blasphemy!!!
