Bit of trivia that I learned while vacationing on Moorea (visible from Tahiti (in the left background); shortest flight I was ever on; the windows in the plane were open!). This photo was taken facing south. The movie The Caine Mutiny was filmed in the bay on the left. I stayed at the resort with the overwater bungalows in the center. The northern face of the volcano had collapsed and fresh rainwater runs down into the 2 bays and outward to the reef, where it kills the coral, creating two gaps in the reef that you can drift dive! One VERY laid back vacation.

Ain't nuthin' quite like the sound of 4 Wrights grabbin' some air.

They DO sound incredible. I was very surprised when the plane turned away from us however. From the front and side of the plane , they were quite loud. As the plane was moving away from us , I was amazed at how quiet they were even though the plane was less that 100 feet away from us.

Is there an internal gain control on the preamp? If so, it may be set too low.

If there is, I wouldn't know what it looked like unless it slapped me in the face.. you know like dummies looking at a car engine and not knowing what's in there.....

See that little blue square thingy with the really teeny weeny little round white thingy in the middle of it that is on top of the big black rectangular thingy? It may not look exactly like that but possibly similar (or not), and it could maybe, perhaps (or not), be a small pot buried on the circuitboard somewhere, too, if it is not an encapsulated preamp like this Bart preamp. Can you Post-A-Pic® of yours (probably no need to remove it from the bass, or, possibly yes, if the pot is on the "dark side" of the board)? Problem that might arise: there may be no pot at all (goes along with the above mentioned phrase in quotes).

(Some knobs have been removed for clarity, although they have nothing to do with the topic at hand)

I've heard of musicians stashing their stuff in their active bass's compartment. A little pot makes the bass sound mellow.

It never hurts to change the 9 volt battery just in case.

I find it interesting how some designers like to coat their electronics like seen here so people can't figure out what they've done. Like the active electronics are top secret. They also can't be fixed. If the manufacturer doesn't have replacement modules, you're kind of stuck.

Bartolini uses the epoxy encapsulated black box method. Our disposable society demands this approach..............

I only have passive instruments.

I find that active instruments, with their wider bandwidth, are harder to fit into a mix. They sound great on their own.

Ha. The link-through for hair products for gingers is for henna products. Imagine that.

Anyway, I was never a pure ginger. More strawberry-blonde, always. And my henna mix is pretty well indistinguishable from the me at 16. And blankity blank blank I do bruise very easily

Thank you @Jeff Scott for the excellent instructions. I'm going to remove the back tonight and give it a look.

I think I'm fickle. I've wanted the SR1200L for years since I sold my first one. But somehow it just doesn't feel modern anymore. I guess I'm just in a mood for shiny new stuff, especially since the Big R is beginning loom on the radar. After that, Carey's going to put a tight squeeze on her purse strings!
