I hope I can find the volume on the AE. I'm pretty sure I want to sell the SR and get the Sire short scale lefty instead. Dang! Just when I thought I had it all figured out!
I think I'm fickle. I've wanted the SR1200L for years since I sold my first one. But somehow it just doesn't feel modern anymore. I guess I'm just in a mood for shiny new stuff, especially since the Big R is beginning loom on the radar. After that, Carey's going to put a tight squeeze on her purse strings!

Thanks in advance for any advice on the low active volume issue. So I gave the bass a more thorough look. It has a bit more sheen to it than I realized. Like it had been played for years. Where the tummy is, the forearm, all of the neck, there's a slight shine. But no dents. The chap who sold it to me was older and took good care of it. I removed the back cover and... yep... didn't know what I was looking at!

Where's the actual preamp? All I see are pots and wires, and some nondescript black flat thingy.

I zoomed into under the white wire terminal and this is what I saw.



I know it's in there because it definitely changes the tone using the treble/mid/bass controls. But it's much less volume than passive, and the bass is deeper on passive.

The battery tells you that there's an active circuit on board.

The black foam is covering a printed circuit board. If there is a pot for adjusting the preamp output level, it would be on the other side of the PCB where the connectors are. I can't see one in the images provided.

A way lower level when the active circuit is engaged is not what I normally find. It might take a tech looking at it in person to troubleshoot what is going on.

As a professional, I knew something was up that moment I overheard a lay person excitedly tell her tablemate she can Drag and Drop in Windows 95.

And as regards Venus on the Halfshell, it is possible for an unclothed lady to appear marginally modest behind a guitar body. I know this to be true as of this morning, and not even sure why I know this.
