That squid video gave me the willy's. I'll never be able to eat squid again. But then again, the Asians do have different eating habits than we do. Watching that was downright creepy.

When I was in the Army we went on an American Express soldier's tour of Italy for a weekend. Stayed in small B&B. The continental breakfast was delicious. Went downtown and was amazed at the huge farmer's market-- I was actually overwhelmed. When this whole thing is over I'd like to take Carey to UK, Germany, France, and Italy.

Last Christmas, we placed a sizable order from omahasteaks.com and when we opened the package of 4 oz lobster halves they were all dried up and shrunken. Had been overcooked. We got a credit for the lobster tails. We finally used that credit recently when we got our stimulus fund. We ordered some pub style cod, chicken fried steak, beef franks, and 8 oz ribeyes. We had the pub style cod tonight with brown rice and a salad. It was absolutely delicious! Saturday we're going to try the chicken fried steak. If you subscribe to their email service, you'll get discount offers on a regular basis. Often they throw in free delivery and you receive it via Fedex Frozen Product. Our stuff was still frozen. Highly recommended.

What sort of packaging do they use to keep the meat frozen? Do they use dry ice or a styrofoam cooler?

I made a new-to me, anyway-discovery Saturday. DD has something they call 'snackin' bacon'. Little strips of bacon sprinkled with maple sugar. Mmmmm.

It doesn't look hard to make. I think that a small amount of maple pancake syrup can be substituted for the sprinkled maple or brown sugar.

All of the food talk is driving me crazy (my wife says I'm crazy already). I can't eat gluten at all. After much research, I am fairly sure that gluten is from the Latin meaning "makes everything taste better".

I know some people go gluten free as a choice, but I can't understand why. But, theirs choices means that there are more gluten free foods for me to choose from.

That makes eating very difficult. And everything gluten free in the grocery costs way more.

The further west I travel in the US, the more likely it is to find a bottle of hot sauce on the restaurant's table. I've hit a first class hash joint when the hot sauce is in a large squeeze bottle.

There's a hot sauce diet. I think that the intent is to burn your tongue so the sense of taste is lost.

I used to use Sterno heat years ago, it's still available. Sterno is a jellied alcohol that can give you the blues. Even a band name.

A loaf of Rudi's Gluten Free bread, which 1/2 the size of a regular loaf, runs about $5 at Krogers.
