Then you could plug your bass into a Tesla!
Then you could play for a really, really, really long time!

Or

You could play really, really, really loud for a really, really, really short time.

well, heading in for my echo right now. we'll see if heart function improved at all. kinda don't think so. here goes nothing......
Here's best wishes and prayers for you.

"The Bums Rush" great band name.

Stalin was out swimming, but he began to drown. A kolkhoznik who was passing by jumped in and saved him. Stalin started to ask the kolkhoznik what he would like as a reward when the latter realised who he had saved. 'Nothing!' he said, 'Just please don't tell anyone I saved you'. He was rushin' away.....

IME they don't die in active basses until well past the point where you can hear them outliving their past due date. I worry way more about crappy 1/4" barrel jacks croaking on a gig, which has actually happened to me. ;)

I checked the jack this morning after reading the posts and it's really clean. It's also pretty heavy duty. My issue was solved with using a ummmm new battery? I still feel silly. For gosh sake, I'm 68! I've been using batteries for at least a few years!

About smoke detectors-- We had a real nice one that had a small led and a woman's voice that would announce when there was smoke. If you pushed the test button she would politely say 'battery tests normal.' The unit wasn't quite a year old. Well, I started cooking something on low and went out to the shed 'for a minute.' Of course I got sidetracked and eventually Carey was calling to get my @$$ back in the house. The smoke detector had gone off and she was announcing-- please evacuate, while the led was flashing. Carey had heard enough and killed that thing daid. I sure miss that lady's voice and i'm a bit upset. Now I have to get a standard detector that doesn't say anything. *Sigh*

Batteries-- medicine-- refills-- I think it's time to get us Alexa. Not sure how Carey will deal with that LOL. But I believe it doesn't hurt to have a reminder to do various things throughout the days, months, etc. I think you can tell Alexa, "Alexa, change bass guitar battery on September 2nd, 2021." Or Alexa, remind Will to take medicine at 7:00am daily." You get the drift.

Jack contacts oxidize with time. Your old jack may have had oxidation on it. It acts like a resistor, decreasing the signal level. In your case, changing the jack fixed your issue. Perhaps it could have just needed cleaning.

Deoxit D5 is not just for cleaning your amp jacks, it should be used on your instrument as well.
How did you know I had some? Been snooping in my tool bag?? :woot:

I went through all of the usual suspects at one time or another, pretty much. But yeah, plenty of love for Explodamats back in the day...:)

Took a while, yeh, these. Exactly these. Get pretty good at putting them back together with gloved hands.

I hear that the new Tesla sound system is pretty good. Lots of speakers and a subwoofer. But those forward thinkers didn't include an instrument in jack.

I do smoke alarm batteries on New Year's Day and Fourth of July. The business about doing them with the Daylight Saving/Standard Time changes isn't symmetrical. The holidays make it real easy to remember to do. Both holidays are associated with fireworks, the first part of which word is what I'm trying to avoid by changing the batteries. Geeze, I knew I was weird, but this is approaching rightdown nerdiness...

My smoke alarm doesn't need a battery.

Good stuff there. When they repaired my mitral valve 11 years ago the ejection fraction didn't come up like they expected, but stayed at around 34%. My cardiologist and regular doc both started pinging on me to change my regular pacemaker for an ICD-type one. I resisted for a couple months, and finally gave in. Naturally, a couple of months after that, the EF came up to normal range. Knock on wood, it has never zapped me. And yep, you have the right idea -- one foot in front of the other.
