Well GOF's I feel very embarrassed. In my haste to set up my new bass, I grabbed a 9 volt from our utility room that was in an open package. I went to the store today and bought a brand new Duracell. Instantly the bass came to life. It turns out the battery in the package had been sitting for a long time on the shelf and the new one I put in today was fresh. Now I'm sorry I spilled my guts all over the GOF thread about this issue. Man, the bass sounds so awesome now. I truly am happy. This one is now a keeper!

Well, Will, I've got you beat. I bought a beautiful 1995 Gibson LPB2/5(see pic). It sounded amazing: tone, oomph, looks, everything. It took awhile to be accustomed to that 5th string, but man what a sound. Anyway, I'd had it a coupla months and it wasn't sounding as good. There seemed to be a little difference if I kinda wiggled the cable/jack. I figured it might be loose, so, off with the control cavity cover............Uhhh,......Why's there a battery in there? Didn't know the damn thing was active.

I don't play the 5er that often. The battery lasts a looong time-assuming I don't leave the volume up on breaks, or leave it plugged in at home. I can't remember the last time I changed it(I write the date on the new one).

The battery in my 79 Stingray is forever, but I change it once a year just because.

I change all my batteries just after new year. as long as I don't leave plugged in, last all year

Smoke alarm and active bass batteries seem to have something in common. It would be my dumb luck that the battery would die when I least wanted it to.

Very weird. The signs are all mirror images like the film negative was printed flipped over.

Probably deliberate, knowing Rod (well, I never did actually know him, personally, he's just from the same side of town as me).

So, that's why they are so expensive at Giant Eagle.

I find it's difficult not to compare every city with New York. The only way to appreciate a city that's not New York is to understand New York.

I change them when they hit 8.2V. About a year, give or take. Used to change them twice a year when I was playing out 3-4 days a week.
