All previously disfunctional appendages and extremities reporting today as present and fit for service.
Proudest moment in 30 years of shoeing a billboard (aside from recovering a full jackknife thru a 360° spin on an icy Wichita highway) was in '98, when I took the road test for my present job.
A 2 hour trip with the trainer through all sorts of terrain and road conditions, empty trailer, floating all the gears the whole time, and never ticked a tooth.
At the completion the trainer got out, flashed a " thumbs up" and said "Smoothest ride I've had in 45 years!"
Smiled all the way home to tell the wife.
Labor day I'll be pulling a load from Chicago to our Kansas City drop yard, for another driver to take to Denver, and returning with an empty.
I work most holidays to let the younger drivers, who still have small children, be with their families. Mine are grown.
Oh.......and the triple time pay never enters the equation!
IME professional drivers have this brilliant way of simplifying what most folks would make into complex problems...you're either on the road and in your lane or you're not, you either missed the shift or snagged the cog...from my brief time around the world of trucking in my youth there was very little to no gray area between "that's how it's done kid" and "you got a problem".![]()
