I wonder how many folks blew out their drivers on their first listen to the opening cut and title track "Tricycle". That's a BIG dynamic jump. I can see someone plopping the needle down and cranking the volume only to have a speaker blowout seconds later.

Sounds like you have some personal experience with this sort of thing.


Shame that YT compresses the out the audio. Now, I have go crank up my stereo and play this.

Hint: AFAIK, there never were any DMP product released on LPs. Tricycle and Big Notes were the darlings of choice for the Stereophile Hi-Fi Show in Santa Monica in 1987. I heard that stuff on some really amazing stereo systems.

I've always though Supertramp's stuff had some good dynamics. Their stuff was made and mixed for big systems I think too. I have a state of the art 1970's system, Marantz 2385 receiver with 2 pairs of Large Advents, with a Thorens TT.

The fastest I’ve ever driven was 205 mph. That was during my IRL test at Kentucky Speedway. At 205, flagmen go by very quickly.

Sounds like a blast! My wife and I looked into doing one of the Indy Experience schools a while back, coulda woulda shoulda. I had seats for CART races in Portland at the end of the straight a couple of times, I think they topped out at 190 or so there.

Yeah, that record seems nuts. The fastest generation Indy cars were "only" doing 250 or so at IMS on the straights, about the same for prototypes during various eras at LeMans I think. So that thing is running at a current Top Fuel dragster's terminal trap speed, but for a mile or whatever. And it's street legal, more or less. Crazy.

I think I would start to get a little nervous at around 300 mph. About the fastest I've ever driven was between 140 and 150, don't ask.

I got up to 300 kph (about 160 mph) on the German autobahn once. In a friend's 1970 Lamborghini V12. Felt like we were idling. Looked like this:

This guy had one heck of a "job". He would take an order for a specific Italian sports car, fly down to Italy and buy it for cash, drive it back to Germany and sell it used for WAY more than he paid for it. He did that 5-6 times per year. I got to drive the Lambo before he turned it over to the purchaser!

I once had a '62 VW Beetle out on I-495, the Beltway around Washington, DC, over 110. Belonged to my girlfriend's younger brother. He'd slipped a Porsche engine into it. That thing would do almost 70 in 2nd gear.
