Even with all the fancy construction equipment available today, they couldn’t touch the 11 month build record of the 102 story, $41M, Empire State Building. Quite an erection.
Speaking of antennae, most NYC FM radio and TV transmitters use the mast on the Empire State Building. At the top of the tower is a lightning rod. It is struck more than 100 times a year.

Partial summary of me in New York, as an adult
Walking down the street with a friend at night in Manhattan, I argue for five minutes because I know that building ahead can't possibly be the Empire State Building.

And each year some schmoe has to climb to the top of that thing, and change the bulbs in the warning beacon.
You'd think, by now, they would design them to retract, similar to a submarine's periscope, but it's probably still cheaper to hire someone to climb.
Hell, maybe the climber only works two days a year!

It complicated because towers in the US are regulated by both the FCC and the FAA. A lot of Manhattan was built by Mohawk ironworkers. They have nerves of steel. There’s actually a shortage of tower workers. I see adds looking for people.

If it weren't for the current pandemic, I'd have NEVER learned about the 1872 pandemic that completely shut down the U.S. And it wasn't peeps. It was horses. An equine flu that originated outside of Toronto. Gave us the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

There is not enough money in the world to get me to do that job.
Flying airplanes never bothered me, even doing stalls and spins, but I get the sweaty palms just from looking at pictures of high places.
I get nervous whenever I watch this video. Kudos to those that can handle it....Not me!

Taking up rock climbing ended my fears of high places.

Hopefully, it's not a schmoe they hire for charging lightbulbs on very tall towers, but rather a maven so the job is done safely and efficiently. If they hired me to do it, for several millions of dollars, by the way (not schmackeroons), they would have hired a schmoe, ... who then subcontracted a maven to do it!

What climbing these antennae and such entails that much of rock climbing doesn't is exposure. At any given moment on the rocks you're looking at exactly what is in front of you now for the optimal route. What nobody wants to do up there is climb to a dead end. Accidental double entendre noted.

That's what 50 years will do to ya. Sitting here in a warm shawl and mismatched slippers writing about rock climbing as if that's an option with a foot that's still getting used to free movement (ouch!). Mismatched because Odin left me with that. New slippers expected soon-ish.
Why doesn’t someone just give there goats some formulated salt.
When asked why he did it, the Ibex replied "because it's there".
I hope that Odin likes his new slippers.
