There is a lot about military indoctrination that is abusive. @PsyDocHill might be able to opine, but I wondered almost 50 years ago, when I was in the midst of it, whether the objective could be achieved without various episodes like the ones cited, and many others. Just before I was sworn in, they finally did prohibit drill sergeants from removing their pistol belts and beating recruits with them.

An episode of War! by Canadian historian/journalist Gwynne Dyer in the 80s I found disturbingly moving is titled "Anybody's Son Will Do". TL;DR — They've been making soldiers for a few thousand years. They know how.
Alway use someone else's toothbrush for that.
Of course, there's also these uses for GAS.

Not necessarily.
Sometimes, they form during the lull, as updrafts are pulled in from the outer edges, leaving a void in the center of the cell, where the vortex will suddenly drop down. Also straight line winds (Wind shear) occurs when the uprising wind column collapses, sending the air down at hurricane speed, hitting the ground and spreading out in all directions. Quite devastating, but usually not as bad as the vortexes, which pick up debris, and pummel everything in their path. You learn a lot about weather here in Texas.

What I can say with all conviction is I've been met with extraordinary hospitality in my every visit to Texas. And also saw rain of the likes that's not really real except on television. But here ... and I'm making my flight today no matter what.
Oh yeah the tornado that touched down when I was on site teaching a class to the people who build the display ads in your local paper. Sirens ... lights go out ... only upper management has windows as I follow my way through stairwells and hallways in search of the beeping UPS
and thinking unkind things, and maybe saying unkind things under my breath as I consider the possibility of my next few days rebuilding servers
instead of home
the newspaper's sysadmin is too good a guy to cuss out, and I'm wondering who to cuss out and I'm the only one left to blame for putting myself here is how it feels
Next day the sysadmin shows me where the tornado went — right up his street. A semi-trailer rolled through several houses. His living room was gone. And didn't cuss him out and didn't have to rebuild servers
But dayaumm ain't never seen anything like a tornado before

Chauffered someone to their covid shot appointment today. It went very quickly. When I got my two, the rule was the second shot had to match the first. In my case Pfizer-Pfizer. Now they seem to be mixing and matching so that rule is out the window. Not sure if it is down to vaccine availability.
Pfizer is currently in clinical studies to see if it is safe for 5 year olds, another study for 2 year olds, and newborns whose mothers had a vaccine to see if it is transfered to the baby.

I've seen tornados on the prairies some are funnel clouds that don't touch the ground. It's so flat and clear that you can see them in the distance.
That name won't get you any gigs but I think this will - Blind Jailhouse Sugar Davis.

Make one up, or we will...
Made this today or actually remade the top. Used to have a dark brown Formica top with a wood border. Took that off and replaced it with almond Formica that's the same color as the counters. Cut a new larger piece of plywood and put the Formica on with contact cement. Used a laminate trim bit in the router to trim the Formica then did a very shallow pass with a round over to finish the edge. Need to stain the edge of the plywood or put clear on it but not today. lol.
We're having a neighbor over for supper. I'll start making lasagna about 4. Probably have to start the wine about that time, too.
