I had read years ago that Sting was kind of well... you know, but then all of a sudden he had this mid 50's P bass which was not THAT long ago and I think Fender even made some Sting basses like that but it's not like he started out on those, he used to play regular old 70's P basses like us. When I saw that and heard it called a "Sting" bass I thought "well that's kind of pretentious" I mean there is a duck Dunn bass but that's because he played the same bass for eons and the same for most other players, they all played the same bass for many years and some of them ever started out on them, Chris Squire for example.....Actually I'm just jealous I want a 55 P bass too.
