Somewhere I still have a pair of Baby IIs that have been in their box for going on 25 years or so. Good place for them.

I like the Large Advents, fairly efficient for acoustic suspension speakers and loads of bass. I had even toyed with getting two more pairs .

I recall the advent speakers and I had a buddy who had two of the smaller ones. They were excellent! My 1970's stereo had a Yamaha CR series receiver and YP-211 turntable with JBL L-19 speakers. The JBLs had foam surrounds that literally dissolved over time (well, over a long time).

I edited to say not enuff bass. They were the best I could afford in 1988. The Large were all-around good.

I don't recall how many years it's been since I've had a stereo set up in my home, but lots. Probably more than 15. All the albums have been packed away for eons, and I'd have to go rooting around to find which boxes the receiver and turntable and other stuff are in. Funny how things change. That used to be the second thing I'd set up in a new place, after the bed.

My friend had them in a basement studio and they worked fine in that confined area. Back in those days speaker diameter and bass capability were closely correlated as I recall. I still remember how nice those Advents sounded and it was a time before we cared much about things like subwoofers, high fidelity was more the goal.

As a comparative data point I think my car at that time only had an AM radio with a single front dash mounted 6"x9" speaker.

Yamaha Natural sound? If so I had one of those during the 70's don't remember the model though.
I posted somewhere (probably here) that my brother in law just gave me some nice Pioneer stuff, an integrated power amp 80W RMS/channel and CT-F950 Cassette deck, these were pretty good in their day too, they're still selling for close to a grand each. I have a matching Pioneer tuner at home and a Pioneer single play CD player. I have to buy some speakers though and a turntable. If he hadn't have given me some of this stuff I wouldn't have completed it but it's just too cool not to now.
I have a Fisher 400 tube receiver at home too waiting for a recap, It's about 25-30 watt/channel but it sounds nice. Thorens TD-150 MkII turntable at home, I love this stuff.

My friend actually traded up to the large Advents later and there was a significant difference in low end response.

That kind of sums up how people’s cycles run. I usually wake up pre-dawn, a bird outside my window manages my internal alarm and wakes me.

I was happy, living like that for 36 years...trusting my body’s clock.

My stereo system was always the first thing I'd set up to optimize it for the room, then everything else worked around that.

My subwoofer goes down to 14 Hz. It works really well with the Maggies.

The only Marantz I have these days is one of these model 1030 integrated amps.

Bought a new Denon stereo 4.1 surround sound in the mid-90s ... I had free coin from a very easy side job. No turntable. By then the mass of my record collection was unsustainable. A move, another move, another move ... some four moves ago just went through all the boxes that were never unpacked between moves and binned it all.

The memory of that Denon system that hangs with me this morning is for some reason I don't recall precisely I was ... oh now I remember. It was right after my father died and she was visiting. Ran a VHS of Rocky Horror Picture Show for her and blew her mind That was my last place in Chicago ...

I like Marantz products, including the Model 2252 that I use. Also have one of their CD players.

One big downfall with Marantz is the dual gang with loudness tap volume potentiometer common in many models. They develop issues with age and often have to be changed. The original part is hard to find and is expensive. A modern equivalent is available but it’s not the same. As a result of this one prone to failure component, I’ve seen many units scrapped.

That looks like a Mason Cash made in England mixing bowl. They were common and inexpensive back then. I use big ones for bread making.

It was the last thing to be packed and the first to be set up for us. Back then most moves were with pickups or UHauls. I don't miss those kinds of moves!

I've been in Phoenix once and Flagstaff once but those two shows makes me really want to see the state.

Arizona is great. Huge variety that a lot of peeps don't expect. Won't miss the politics.
