Actually our last move was in 1990. I had that thought then. With all the stuff we have accumulated since then, I can't even think about packing it, let alone moving it...

Bought a new Denon stereo 4.1 surround sound in the mid-90s ... I had free coin from a very easy side job. No turntable. By then the mass of my record collection was unsustainable. A move, another move, another move ... some four moves ago just went through all the boxes that were never unpacked between moves and binned it all.
The memory of that Denon system that hangs with me this morning is for some reason I don't recall precisely I was ... oh now I remember. It was right after my father died and she was visiting. Ran a VHS of Rocky Horror Picture Show for her and blew her mindThat was my last place in Chicago ...

UHaul has evolved. They still have trailers. I used to rent their trucks with the big stick shift and lift in the back. Their moving trucks are way better now, built in ramps, automatic transmission.

Ditto for most of the stuff and also no desire. When we moved from StL to here, United Van Lines packed and loaded everything including a car and a boat. Did it all in one day. When they got here they unloaded and put stuff in the rooms. We had to unpack clothes, dishes, etc. but that was easy. We'll never move ourselves again.

It's genetic. I know this to be an absolute fact, goes right down the maternal line. Great-great grandmother, grandmother, mother, lands directly on me simply for showing up. I have enough problems without taking on ancestors' problems

Yup. This is the GOF subforum, so I can share my worst U-Haul rental ever. Family in Yellow Springs, OH passed away. Large farm house, full of books and high quality old furniture. Which my ex #2 and her twin sister wanted. In Chicago. The U-Haul truck I wound up with for the drive back was governed to 55 MPH (I Can't Drive 55!). The speed limit was 75. That drive sucked!
U haul is the way we got the band equipment around town...about once or twice a month from bar to bar. Gigs were usually 4-5 weeks or two weeks in length at one venue. Usually the trucks were OK. They had a self contained ramp. Everything had wheels.
I remember renting one right before setting out from Michigan for a month long tour in Florida. The truck would just barely go 55 miles per hour. OMG! Up hill, it was just torture.
I just saw that we must have had the same truck!
That was painful.
Well then, go for it! Next time, I will call 800 GotJunk before hiring packers and movers.

Great, as long as you're not downsizing. Or changing countries, like me. The shipper I'm using has been terrific so far, but I'm paying $31/cu. ft., so size mattered. I'm moving from 1800 sq. ft. into 900 sq. ft. I'm moving from 120V to 220V. And with this pandemic? Sheesh. I'm in my third 2-month VRBO rental after selling my house the end of 2020. It looks like Europe will open for vaccinated Americans this summer, so I'm pulling the plug and driving to Chicago and staying with my brother and his wife (also trying to retire to France; they've sold their practice and house). And I'm building a house in France, so I'll need temporary housing again when I get there until it's finished late October/early November. By the time I finish with all of these moves, I'll look just like Pappy and Mams.
My back hasn’t done that in a lot of years. Others move my stuff.
As I recall, you are set up with your nieces property.

That was one of the primary reasons they gave up touring. That and a total lack of privacy. Saw a Beatles documentary the other day on this subject. Ironically, you can chalk up another Beatles influence on music. Their road experiences gave birth to the modern band touring industry.

That's a nice Marantz, made in USA or Japan?
I have a Pioneer that's similar to that, SX-450, 15 WRMS per channel, it's been in the family for years and I ended up with it. I used it for my computer speakers, not sure what year it was made but my sister had it back in the 70's. Still works well.
