And, contrary to some common opinions, money is not the root of all evil. It is the love thereof that deserves that title. Just like guitars do not hurt peoples' ears/sensibilities, it's what some people do with them that does. ;)

But, alas, until someone comes up with a better medium for an almost-universally recognized value exchange, we're probably gonna be stuck with the sordid matter of coin for quite a while yet. :whistle:


ETA: I dunno nothing about bitcoin, dogecoin, and such digital currency. Could it be a physically cleaner medium? Maybe. But, the fools and their moneys are ever present.

Just as I read this, this moment, what should arrive but a friendly email reminding me I can change students' lives (and, coincidentally, a request for money to that end).

The question of what money really is as deep a rabbit hole as one might dare explore. Too deep for me to go all the way down. :) It's that "close enough" place in higher maths.

Man, I love the way the old stuff sounds in the sun room! I also like the Dolby 5.1 mixes on DVD or BluRay. Selections are limited these days on Amazon. I haven't looked on fleabay. I have The Yes Album, Yes "Fragile", Chicago II (the only one I didn't have on LP), Gordon Goodwin "Swinging for the Fences", and a Diana Krall that I was very disappointed with - mix is good, just don't like the album. Wish I had bought more of them when they were fairly common.

The Yes albums are incredible in the 5.1 format as are the others!

Once a band has a big hit with a sappy love ballad, they seldom ever come back from the syrupy abyss. See also: Foreigner, Aerosmith, etc.

I get hit up by schools. Not only do they want money, they want me to leave it to them in my will. They have endowments worth billions. They keep buying hotels and other real estate all over the city, renovating, and converting a lot to student housing with fancy restaurants, maid, and concierge service. Those students have nicer places than many. The sports facility was recently updated and expanded. THEY WANT ME SUPPORT THAT!

Once I reached "a certain age", I started getting requests for money from everyone(it seems). I've been sending them back with a note which reads "retired on fixed income, unable to donate"[true]. Obviously no one reads those notes, so now I just toss 'em in the recycle bin.

I didn't graduate from my Very Fine College, and due to the way their curriculum was structured, my credits didn't transfer to the local state U. I ended up with nothing but debt, but it wasn't their fault I dropped out, so no real hard feelings. They sent the glossy magazine three or four times a year, and I generally gave it a look. Requests for money, though, I promptly roundfiled.

Fast forward to a few years ago, and a couple of medium-sized flaps about who was allowed to be a full member of that community. Grrr. Right about then, an alum (whose name was on an academic building) was found to be in Real Trouble. I fully expected VFC to apply the same sort of 'we must take speedy action' to Real Trouble dude as they did with a few of the 'wrong sort' of students. I was incorrect, and when it hit the news that a couple of trustees had written a nice letter to the court asking for leniency because Real Trouble dude was feeble and had been a nice person as far as they knew, that did it.

I wrote the epic Get Off My Lawn letter, and told them to NEVER send me anything again. They haven't.
