I have a REAL hard time understanding millennial or younger language, regardless of the source. Had to look up what 'woke' is, and frankly won't attempt communicating with anyone using the 'word' 'bae ' ...

Had someone turn in an essay for a grade last week incorporating these. Rejected, but on the 3rd attempt they managed to turn in an effort in which all the words appeared in a standard dictionary.

You have never lived in Louisiana. Where such terms as: "Save the dishes," "Aw, shy bayba," "Let me down at the next corner," "Here's your order, Boo," etc. have run rampant since I was a child. This is when the old folk are not speaking a bastardized version of French. So say, "coonass" is derived from the expression used by the French during WWII for the American translators (mostly from LA): connasse. It meant street prostitute-- which is what the French thought of the Louisiana American's French speaking skills.

I live in west Texas where we have our own dialect and accents, to be sure. 'Fixin ta,' 'hunkering' etc...so there is that. But dialects are typically long standing, regional, and not picked up overnight, and not fad speech influenced by pop culture - that was my point.

Nothing funnier/sadder than a group of rural white/Hispanic kids trying to talk, dress, and act like they just blew in from some inner city...

i’m of the opinion that the US should be indicted for crimes against the English language. Silent H in words like human so it comes out uman! Missing Us in words like colour or neighbour. I could go on but you get my drift.

Watching Animal Cops on TV and they say things like The dog,cat,horse etc which is called... instead of who is called... animals that think are people too tha knows! :)

Bo Diddley used the DeArmond tremolo on his recording, Bo Diddley. Probably the first effect. An interesting electro-mechanical device that used conductivity to organically turn on and off an instruments signal: Invalid Link Removed.


Not used in this song, but a good one none the less. What a sound from 1957.

This is all fine, but no one tried to turn these examples of 'language' in on a paper for a grade, or published them in a newspaper for mass consumption (until recently.) Everyone understands Porky Pig or Boomhauer from 'King of the Hill' but that doesn't make it right..

I need a new tip for my cane - worn out the old one

Did I mention that the crawfish field homestead includes a Firework stand? For over 15 years, hell yes! Anyway, we got all crazy competing with a neighbor and shooting flaring colored gunpowder. So, we pulled a BIG ONE, and couldn't find the wick and started pulling all the wrapping off to find it. All was good until the last 5-6 blasts; then the box structure collapsed and charges started going sideways. Women panicked; screams of true terror. It was so awesome. It was like chaos was aiming the charges and one exploded right over the top of the firework stand with its insane stock of explosives. It's a metal building and can apparently withstand a strategically placed firework attack.
