I had the police show up about a complaint from a neighbor saying they didn't like me putting my trash out in my underwear...


They said I had to use plastic bags.

The mark of a good wood worker is hiding the mistakes, but I ain't that good. I always have "rustic charm" in my stuff. Sometimes I get lucky and only have to buy the wood twice. :laugh: I was pretty happy and a little surprised how well that 3-drawer chest turned out. :D That's the most complicated thing I've ever done.

I could probably be a decent wood worker if I did it more often. I do one or two things a year. I end up forgetting how to do something I've done before. :help:

The pan is a good idea. You'll have to figure out where to route the drain from the pan. The pan may be required to meet code. If the codes change over the years, you'll have to install the water heater to meet the new codes.

It will provide plenty of hot water provided you don't have a huge Jaccuzzi or several people taking baths or showers in a row. The simpler the better. While they are a bit more efficient , the high efficiency fan induced ones need electricity to run , are more expensive , and have a lot more things that can go wrong with them such as fan motors , self igniters and having to run a dedicated ground fault electrical outlet. And yes , you are correct , it will require quite a bit of plumbing expertise to get a tankless unit installed. Stick with a simple gas operated unit (no fan induction or self igniters) as you are already set up for it with a gas line and an exhaust flue. All this will require to install is a couple of solder joints , and possibly some minor alterations to your gas line and flue pipe.
While the tankless ones WILL provide pretty much endless hot water , they are much more expensive , will need an electrical supply and REQUIRE some serious maintenence about every six months. They are also much more prone to breakdowns than a standard unit. Personally , I wouldn't have one if it was given to me.

This is another thing I like about Talkbass. No matter what comes up, there will be a pro here to answer questions along with others that have good advice and takes on it. Thanks to all of you for help and suggestions.
