Back then maybe glass belted tires. I pushed the tires beyond what I should have on my Nova. The guy at the tire shop came out and looked at them, he just shook his head and went back in. Stupid things that you do as a kid that I’d never do now.

Glass belts. No radials. I was driving one of these. 1969 AMC Javelin 343 aluminum block, magnesium heads, racing shift automatic. The AMC dealer in Janesville, WI had supplied it to the high school for driver's ed. It was like-new when I bought it used. Loved that car.
Someone say chicken? At jazz camp in 2008, I was able to sit in with the faculty big band to play "The Chicken". Way cool experience to play with guys at this level.

Jay Saunders was the director for our group. He was a hoot and a half to work with. You had to work and you wanted to. If something went in the ditch, he would say stuff like "Holy smokers! What was that!?"
Jay was a trumpet instructor at UNT and directed the One OClock and Two OClock lab bands. He retired in 2016.

This jazz camp is a great experience. It's amazing to listen to the groups at the start of the week then at the end. We had five rehearsals and five sectionals before the concert. The bands are mostly middle school and high school kids, occasionally a college kid, and a few adults. In this group their were three adults - two piano players and myself. The ability of some of the kids is astounding.

My Dad wired up the 220V to the bird feeder. We didn't mind the squirrels-they're kinda funny-but rats would come to the feeder at night. Dad would wait 'til a rat or two would get in the cage, then plug the 220V in and watch the rats describe a graceful arc as they somersault offa the feeder. At that point Dad would open the door to let our cairn terriers out to finish the job.
Love the 'random table' bit.

Sometimes I like to do a sort by "most popular", then shop from the last page forward.
I see you were out near my old stomping grounds. Still have kin folks around Snyder.
Grumpy time... Took Mrs GT to a regular checkup at the doc's office. That was all good but we're both a little grumpy since neither of us slept well last night.
Monday is grocery day so we went to the store. Car needed gas, too. Kroger has a gas station so we'll fill up there. Pull in and all of the pumps on one side of the island are bagged out of order. Okay. Pull around to the other side. Do the deal and the nozzle clicks off after about 2 secs. Try it again and there is no pressure. The grade select button is flashing. Press it again, still flashing. Try the nozzle again. Starts and clicks off again and no pressure. I put the nozzle back in the pump - forcefully - and take the receipt for $0.03. Pull around to another pump - same thing. The attendant comes out and says they are out of gas all grades. He should have talked to me yesterday - I had plenty of gas I could have given to them free and it was high test.
Grumble, Grumble... 7-11 across the street. Drive over there. All of the pumps have "pay inside" on the display. WTFudge? Go in and a barely understandable clerk says something about a computer rebooting and none of the pumps work. Us and about five other PO'd customers leave. Surprised there wasn't a wreck in the parking lot. Grumble, grumble...
Back to the store for groceries. That's fairly uneventful except for a big increase in prices of some items since last week. Gas prices are way up - transport costs? Who the hell knows. Well, uneventful until checkout. Store wasn't busy so only one checkout line manned. We were first in line. No one to bag so I start bagging. Then the clerk asked for the Kroger card. Okay. Back to bagging. Then I have to pay for stuff so stop bagging. Insert the card into the chip reader - CHIP READ ERROR. Try it again, same thing. Try the swipe slot - MUST USE CHIP READER. Put the card in the chip reader again - ERROR SWIPE CARD. I'm about ready to put my fist into the machine. Swipe again and it works. Home and unload groceries, fortunately uneventful.
Mrs GT needed something from somewhere else. She said she would fill up the car. She asked a clerk at that store if they had heard anything about gas shortages and they said several people had mentioned problems. Hope this is an insulated isodent and not a big problem.

One thing to try for future chip-reading errors...clean the chip! Wipe it good or use a clean pencil eraser if wiping it doesn't work. It's when the pump's out at the doctor's office that's worrisome. Cars can be filled, people not so much.
...and then - Needed to mow grass today. Supposed to rain later so waited until it was cloudy. Waited too long. Went out and the clouds were pretty dark to the northwest. Ran the weedeater and started mowing. Wind kicked up about half way though the front yard then started raining with about four passes left. I finished and barely got back under the carport before it turned into torrential rain. The rain only lasted about 10 mins. Have to do the back yard tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip but that would have removed my excuse for being grumpy.

I had a molar split in half and start to carve up the inside of my mouth. Picked a dentist out of the phone book and got it taken care of. Did I ever go back to that guy? No f'ing way. Why? He was a heavy unfiltered Chesterfield smoker. When he got close for the tooth extraction, his breath reeked! Bad. Could not wait to get out of there. And it was a hooked root. Bled like a stuck pig for 3 days. Bad memories all around on that one!

Going to say all of us on this thread have personal experience with low speed dentist's drills. My childhood dentist would daub with something he assures me tastes like banana. It's hurl time ... He was in his 80s when he retired, and I was probably no more than 12 or 13 when he turned the practice over to a "young guy".
